With you A S! Moved to whole foods only, mindfully, many years ago - have recently added time restricted eating (12pm-6pm) daily and am pleased to say that I'm one of the only 60 year olds in my 'circle' who's not taking some drug or other to combact chronic disease. Hubby too. What we can control, we do - what we can't we don't worry over.

Thank you Zoe, finally someone who is saying something about the damage being done to the planet as well because people are not eating properly. At last the reason the Amazon is disappearing and the U.S West is turning to dust because of the the way it's being farmed. The bison should never have been wiped out and now we're killing off millions of camels in Australia.

When I was young, chicken skin was my favorite food. I always used to say that, when I grew up, I was going to order a big plate full of chicken skins. Then I grew up and never did it. I figure that the restaurant would charge me for a full meal for every skin and it'd end up costing a fortune and I don't have the budget. Three or four times a year though, I still go to that restaurant to grab some chicken and eating the skin is always an incredible experience.

The arguements outlined here fly directly in the face of scientific consensus, this lady does not represent main stream clinical and nutritional literature, don't be fooled by that combination of letters at the end of her name. Her PhD was an attempt to debunk health guidelines released in the 70s and 80s. That's a long long time in modern scientific endeavours.

Also, science of course welcomes alternate view points, but you better goddamn sure be evidence based, then a nobel prize will be in the post. I don't think her calibre as a research scientist will be exonerated with more time and more evidence. Scientists who fight against mainstream scientific consensus in their field are far more likely to be mistaken rather than geniuses surpassing all others in their field.

@therorysnake 4 жыл бұрын
@@dalin6275 Yep sure no problem. So my main issue here is that Zoe Harcombe is purporting that CHD incidence is not increased by saturated fat intake. The European Society of Cardiology states that there are strong, consistent, and graded relationships between saturated fat intake, blood cholesterol levels, and the mass occurrence of cardiovascular disease and that the relationships are accepted as causal. Most medical, scientific, heart-health, governmental, and professional authorities agree that saturated fat is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, including the World Health Organization, the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Medicine, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Dietitians of Canada, the Association of UK Dietitians, the American Heart Association, the British Heart Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the World Heart Federation, the British National Health Service, the United States Food and Drug Administration and the European Food Safety Authority. "Effects of saturated fatty acids on serum lipids and lipoproteins: a systematic review and regression analysis" is a well cited study demonstrating saturated fatty acids increase low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, a strong risk factor for CVD/CHD, if you'd like a specific paper to look over. Remember: Saturated fat refers to a number of different molecules in different foods that vary in their health impact, so bear in mind that this relationship has a much finer level to be looked at, eg coconut oil is high in saturated fat but the specific types are less impactful on CHD incidence than the types found in animal meat.

The biggest problem here is “scientific consensus “. Good science does not work in consensus, politics do. Science works with evidence, data, and the validity of science. Unfortunately, the dietary guidelines are not established on strong science, but strong politics. Consider the scientific method… not politics.

This whole debate shouldn't be about what we actually choose to eat but rather what we should eat & how we obtain our food. Ethics, environmental damage & sustainability should be the primary concerns of a so called enlightened society. We are guided by our egotism that the world & the creatures inhabiting it should serve us in some way. To this end we routinely destroy habitats be it to cultivate plants or keep food animals. Attitudes need to change. Commercial farmers have NO defence since it is farming itself that is the problem. Regarding nutrition there is no requirement for farm raised meat or poultry, eggs or dairy products. We can just as easily obtain essential nutrients from wild caught fish & insects. In fact the quality is higher & more nutrient dense than anything we obtain from farm animals. No creatures need to be enslaved to serve us. As for cattle fertilising the soil, they can do that if left to their own devices in a natural habitat. Meat eating is a poor justification for letting animals do what they would do without human interference. Regarding fruit & veg again the problem is large scale farming. Especially foods of little nutritional value, including most fruit, cereals & those used as cattle feed. If just the latter were abolished there would be a food surplus that far exceeds the requirements of the current world population. No need for any more habitat destruction. Sourcing nutrients from algae & micro organisms would also go a long way to reducing environmental impact. To summarise, there are NO health benefits & serious ethical concerns regarding raising animals for food. Neither is there any justification as to which animals we consider deserve this fate. Dogs, cats & cute talking african greys versus cows, pigs & chickens being prime examples. Anyone says otherwise is simply justifying animal abuse for the sake of convenience, habit & taste. Agricultural practices need to change. Individuals can help diminish the impact of large scale farming by growing their own produce or/and buying locally from small holdings. I am an ova pesca keto vegan forager. Biomedical scientist & holistic medicine practitioner.

@Clarissa 1986 give me an example. I mean, we're different to animals in that they have to kill for food... We have a choice not to kill and people still choose to inflict horrible pain upon them, ending their life for a beef burger that's going to last no more than ten minutes. You can debate this all day on either side of the argument but it's as simple as you're ending a life when you don't have to.

@Clarissa 1986 that's odd... I've been on a vegan diet for some time now and regularly have my bloods done, just for my own peace of mind and I've never once been low in anything. But then again, even if I was there's plenty of ways to improve that. As for cholesterol being the source of sexual hormones... My boyfriend certainly isn't complaining 😂 Clarissa, if at any time you feel like opening your mind I'm sure there is plenty of people living off a plant based diet that would be willing to help you, including myself 😊

The more ethical you get with the food, the more expensive it gets. Since profit controls everything, and the unethical way is the cheapest way, it will always be around. We have to vote with our money and buy the pricier stuff, but most people don't care.
