Just glad i was around to see group b The best days of rallying

Thanks for this epic footage! Lots of memories, tuning into BBC Rally Report with Propaganda’s Jewelled theme tune before William Woollard’s wonderful tones updating us on event progress. Rallying just isn’t the same now kids!

WRC has changed, shorter rallies, not so many manufacturers, progress, I don't think so. Spectated that year and 86, awesome cars, so sad what happened to Henri, Group B the pinnacle, but I still enjoyed group A when it came . Thanks for the upload .

This was a great year ... we did 6 days .. Nottingham to the lake district .. had about 8 hrs sleep all week. Such great memories stired up watching this. Even stood in the chippy with Cesare Fiorio at a service halt in south Wales... Keep the videos comming

Absolutely brilliant memories especially seeing them come down into the Hairpin at Olivers Mount and through Wykeham Forest stage unfortunately no more 😢 #GroupB #Sendem

Those were the days my friend. My first taste of rally was there, in 1975. Bitten by the bug. Dalby as with Wykeham. Bloody glamping took over.
@danross8565Ай бұрын
Wykeham was used on the Mobil 1 rally challenge. Are the roads still there?!
@AntonyClayton-eq1ulАй бұрын
@@danross8565 Hiya. I expect so. Excepting the 'suicide' road over the edge of the escarpment. I read somewhere last year, that it had subsided and was no longer passable. Drove down it a couple of times. Concentrated the mind somewhat!

Henri rolled his S 4 and still won. We need RAC back in WRC in its original form as a dark rally.
@keithwhite2815Ай бұрын
Superb coverage. I followed the RAC rally throughout the early 80's watching Jimmy McRae, Stig Blomquist,Malcolm Wilson, from bath to Castle O'er twiglees. Those were the days. First time I saw the Golden Wonder 6r4 was awesome what a sound.
@tinyzukimonster970Ай бұрын
I don't think I've seen more effective footage exemplifying the sheer brute force of these cars, the raw power combined with the relative simplicity/inadequacy of suspension capability and lack of grip with tyre technology. Despite how advanced these cars were, just the no handbraking use and steering inputs are incredible!
@herbieRCpaints53Ай бұрын
Those 6R4's sounded so good 💯 Awesome upload 👍👍👍

Nothing are like these cars and skills of the drivers. Epic

Great days! Followed that year from start to finish with my mum and dad! The short wheel base Audi was an absolute weapon!! Rallying as lost its way since then all the cars where different!! Now you could take the stickers off they all look the same!
@chazgisby8876Ай бұрын
Proper rallying.
@careyroberts3924Ай бұрын
Rallying is now but a shadow of it's former self. OK it is only natural that the cars have "progressed" but the format these days leave a lot to be desired in comparison to 40 years ago...#TurnBackTime
@Andy_ATBАй бұрын
Yeah, but those in charge won't admit it. Three and a bit days of repeated stages is not what every WRC event should be about. Events are supposed to be different.......
@MrDavidfballАй бұрын
lots of power, tractor like transmissions, low tech even on the tyres days that can never be replicated no matter how many tweeks WRC tries to do to make modern rally's more popular

That 6R4 sounds fantastic, they all do and all have a different sound, it was great. Now all motor sports sound the same, wrc cars all sound the same, f1 cars all the same, even MotoGP bikes all the same. Too many regulations now
@Skumtomten129 күн бұрын
These cars have so much character/personality. You can distinguish their looks and sound the moment you see/hear them. Now they all look and sound the same. Cars now are also so efficient it's kinda boring. Always landing perfectly, and has so much downforce and grip that they don't really dance around the corners anymore like they used to.
@Andy_ATBАй бұрын
And now, not only do we not have a WRC round, the actual event no longer exists.......Great bit of organisation from those who ran the event. Utterly shambolic.....

I had no idea any Celica TCTs rallied in England! I thought they only saw action in Africa and 1000 Lakes
@Pen3989Ай бұрын
They raced the TCT in the uk since '83. They also saw some action in Portugal, New zealand, China, German, Sweden and Belgium although the latter only happened once

The Metro handles the bumps far better than the Audi. It should have been Tony's for the taking, had ARG not been let down by Michelin and brought suitable tyres for the frozen forest tracks. Michelin deemed they wouldn't be needed..
@HighFellАй бұрын
Tony was suffering with flu all through the event. The Deltas were so fast. If the tyres were an issue the metros would never have finished so high. Still, amazing times, glad I was there to see it all.
@doubled1978Ай бұрын
That’s true, Mikkola was a master at this event though. Despite the weight and engine in front of the front axle disadvantage of the Audi, he’d already come back from well behind on day 1 to have a near 1 minute lead in Wales before the engine went sick, you can hear it in the clip at Hafren here. The Audis and Peugeots would have had the same Michelin issue as the Metros when the weather turned frozen in the north, but alas, none of them ever made it that far anyway. Tyres or no tyres, I think on frozen roads the Audis would have struggled against the mid-engine cars anyway.

1995/96 Swedish Rally, 1995 Rally Australia or 1994/96 San Remo? I don’t see much of those
@DelDreddАй бұрын
The best sounding obviously the Audi quattro and the Metro 6R4, Lancia a weird looking and sounding travesty of a car, the Original Stratos was a great sounding and looking car.
