A mother and father in Scioto County, Ohio stand trial in the death of their infant son. Young Dylan Groves was found dead 30 feet down a well last year, prosecutors said. Authorities blame the boy’s parents-mother Jessica Groves, and father Daniel Groves-for what happened. The defendants are charged with aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping, endangering children, tampering with evidence, interference with custody, gross abuse of a corpse, and four counts of felonious assault.
Problems stemmed right from Dylan’s day of birth on January 10, 2019. The boy was born with drugs in his system, authorities claim. Daniel Groves later got the child back after showing that he followed regulations, but the defendant allegedly started missing important dates, including court dates and doctor’s appointments.
Investigators claim that both defendants bolted on a four-wheeler when authorities dropped by the home for a checkup on May 20, according to WLTW. Deputies obtained a search warrant, got Jessica Groves to give herself up quickly, but Daniel Groves was only arrested after a six-hour standoff. Authorities said they found $42,000 of stolen items at the residence, and later found the late infant in a well.
Deputies said Dylan Groves didn’t even make it to a full three months of age. They claim there’s evidence showing he’d been dead since March.
A coroner determined that the victim had been slain. The child sustained several bone fractures, had been wrapped in plastic bags with duct tape, then put in milk crates that were wrapped in chains, and other bindings, according to WSAZ. The creates were weighted down with rocks and a weight, authorities said. As in his birth, Groves died with drugs in his body, according to the coroner. This allegedly included methamphetamine.

I’m sorry but I have no sympathy for these parents and I’ve been in their shoes. I had been an opiate addict for 12 years and found out at 3 months I was pregnant. The day the doctors told me I was pregnant I stopped using drugs got on medication assisted treatment to get me off the heroin and I also stopped smoking cigarettes. My son is about to be 6 years old he is healthy and happy and I owe him my life because he is what saved me from my addiction. I work in the field now and I see pregnant addicts all the time but none of them kill their children. Addiction doesn’t create murderers. These people are selfish monsters with out without their addiction.

Nursing is NOT all babies and mommas and the miracle of life. Women die during childbirth. Doctors have to deliver stillborns. There can be complications during delivery and the baby doesn't make it. They can be born with deformities or unforseen medical issues. If you let yourself get too emotionally involved this is not the right career for you

The nurses are too “pure” for this work? What kind of nurse should be providing care for newborns born with addiction withdrawals? If a nursing student still has fantasies of what they will encounter as a registered nurse, they have not been paying attention nor should they be a nurse.

I once took my elderly mother to a community talk given by a judge about wills, etc. The judge said that his probate court cases used to be all old people, but now the deceased were more young druggies, often young parents. He said it's always a mess as being in their 20's or 30's, the druggie parents never expect to die so have nothing in place as to who get the child/children (thus causing custody battles galore) or anything else related to dying. The judge said it's about 90% of his probate stuff is young drug deaths now. And the media applauds legal marijuana - a known gateway drug and harmful to health generally if smoked....

@@elizabethbrown4972 the area around me, hospitals in Al RN's make between $10-20/hr and LPN's $9-13 (pay varies with degree, work history, demand, position u take and when a floor/department can't keep nurses they pay more to get u in,those r the floors where u see nurses who r there just for the paycheck and do not care about people. when that happens it puts more work on others and that's why the floor has high turnover ) they will add a little extra if u work night shift and/or charge nurse. Those that do home care make less but they r given gas mileage pay around 13cents a mile and some places pay u on call pay and with that a few will pay part of ur cellphone bill since u have to have one when u travel when ur on call. Being a nurse u not only take care of ur patient u take care of the family as well which adds more work. Different floors have different levels of care but when u really love the job u find it rewarding. Just wish the pay was better to cover the risks u take as a nurse.

@@bettybennett1828 Thank you for your full explanation. I worked as a Nursing Assistant when I was 18 over in England. We weren't certified and the pay was very low. I loved it though. I remember reading that RNs were trying to get better pay over there, but that was years ago now. Here in Tupelo MS RNs were making 20 dollars an hour. That was a few years back. Nurses aids pay is between 8 dollars and 9.50. Theres a high turnover in the nursing homes for NAs. Very hard work for little pay. They offer a starting bonus to tempt them.

It sucks, but it’s because the father passed his drug screens. He was peeing in front of live a person & passing. He did everything he needed to do to get the baby back. But the baby was given back & he signed an agreement that he would not allow the mother alone with the baby, she wasn’t allowed to live in the house, he was supposed to be the main caregiver & just allow her to have supervised visits with the baby. None of which it seems he actually followed. Where dcfs messed up, is it doesn’t look like they took hair samples of the husband, that they weren’t doing random weekly checks. My state requires this, sometimes it’s 2 a week & phone calls to check in, she should’ve been a high alert level so I don’t see why they weren’t. A lot of social workers don’t have that much power, it’s up to the court & parents have so many rights. It’s hard to take a child... usually dcfs works to help the family, & in the majority of cases the parents want help & things are okay. Or they take the baby... but she threw up so many red flags that a case worker should’ve seen.
@sarrco9927
@sarrco9927 3 жыл бұрын
Dcfs asks for a lot & they make you jump through a lot of hoops. They should’ve & may have interviewed the older son, his school, his medical records, family.... but the flags should’ve been raised the moment she started missing her treatment. I know, we report them directly to the case worker. Occasionally things happen and you may miss one, but increased absences & lack of participation & failing her tests would’ve been reported.. & at the point, he technically had custody so they should’ve amped up the random pop ins. Or monitoring the child much more closely, interviewing the older son to see if the mom was there. It is hard to follow their supervision rules, like if he had to pee he should’ve brought he baby in with him. Catching her there would’ve had them taking the baby. So even though I don’t think he physically harmed the baby, he didn’t do what he agreed & it lead to the babies death.

@sarrco9927
@sarrco9927 3 жыл бұрын
32makingit it is, they only temporarily took him until they could investigate the father. The father passed all his drug tests, he passed the home inspection, he signed an agreement saying he would not allow the mother alone with the baby, that she could not live in the house, he had a job... he passed everything. You can’t keep a child from a parent who didn’t do anything wrong, he didn’t deliver a baby with drugs in their system & he said he didn’t know & he proved to them he was clean. They have no case against him, they are separate people. She’s the only one they can prove was doing anything. by law they are required to return the child & then they monitor the situation. Most states don’t even take the baby into care if there is family to release him too, who pass all the checks. It’s better to keep a child with family then in foster care & parents have way more rights then the states do. The state can’t just come in & take a child from someone who proves they are capable, drug free, decent home.... these parents went to great lengths to conceal what was going on.

If a baby is born addicted to drugs, they should be taken away, period. If a mother can't justify getting off drugs while pregnant, she won't justify getting off of them when the baby is born. Maybe, just maybe wemon will rethink their choices or at least it gives the baby a better chance. I had to come off a depression and anxiety medication and stopped smoking while going through a separation and inevitably single and alone so I have zero compassion for this woman. I also had to bottle feed my baby so he didn't get any medication in his system when I went back on my meds due to post partum. It sucked and it was tough, but you do what you gotta do. My son was born a healthy baby boy 9lb 4oz. Emergency c section and I refused to even take the pain medication they gave me during and weeks after bc I was worried I might not be clear headed or tired and I didn't have help at home. So I def don't think there are any excuses for these evil people! All that aside, even if they were high, that doesn't make you a monster. She's just selfish and evil.

Even if he had a chance at adoption, the moment they hear he was born addicted, he wouldn't have been as easily adopted. Then you have poor babies in foster care because they were born with a lot of melanin as if they had choice.....Smh lol I'm so tired of hearing that tired old line because if it were true there wouldn't be over crowded facilities or children spending their whole life in foster care. Absolutely disgusting the fact that child services made the decision of giving that innocent baby back to his monster ‘parents’ ..... why ?? Not only was that little angel failed by the 2 people who should have given him the most unconditional love ever ...... the 2 people who generated him, but he was failed by child services ..... by the whole system. How shamefully tragically sad 😞 r.i.p. baby Dylan ..... I’m so so sorry for all the pain you endured and I hope you are happy and pain free now in the arms of Jesus 🙏🦋

She works in an environment where she has to communicate with women at the point of child-birth, and I don't believe that is an environment which would be conducive to her bellowing out her comments across a court-room just so the court-reporter can get it down on paper. The accoustics of these courtrooms always seems very poor. When each witness enters the witness box, they could pin a microphone onto the witnesses lapel so that it would always be close to their mouth (like they do in tv studios), and the court dj should adapt the sound levels of the microphone so that it helps the speakers be heard more clearly. Not every person has the same tone, or manner of phrase and so if the testimony really is so important to them, courts should do more to assist in that process.

They love their babies, children. BUT the drugs alter their abilities to think, feel or do anything except find their next dose.

So many people have commented that they don't understand why these two losers would keep this baby that they clearly didn't want and resented having to care for. While many claim the reason is narcissism, I think it is a fear of being SHAMED by others. They probably never thought they resented this baby enough to kill him, but the reason they kept him was because they couldn't deal with the ridicule they would get from friends and family for giving a healthy baby up for adoption. Once they came under the influence, this resentment welled up and they lost control. It's ironic that fear of public shaming influenced their desire to keep this baby and now they are the most hated couple in their county because they kept him. This desire for CPS to force unwanted children on unfit parents is ridiculous. They should make an effort to identify parents who clearly don't want their babies and encourage them to give their children up with no shame attached. Remember, she admitted to having no car seat and no baby bed for Dylan to sleep in. She had no prenatal care and likely used drugs right before she came in to deliver. They obviously didn't want him. Instead of saying to them "Here is what you need to do to get your child back." CPS should have said, "If you care at all for this baby and you want to maintain your lifestyle, let's try him in foster care for a while and see how you both do."

Ms. Howell is a pure soul. Poor little Dillion was in good hands I'm sure when he was with her. You can tell she loves her job. This story is so sad. I can't imagine giving birth to any of my children and not wanting to know everything that is going on with my baby.

So many innocent children are killed at the hands of their parents because of irresponsible and negligent by CPS. CPS should be responsible for Dylan’s death as much as parents. They are the ones who made the decision to hand the baby to the drug addict father. Dylan should have stayed with foster family for his safety.

Reneenan I totally agree with you these monsters In case who had the care of Dylan need to be in court explaining why they choose to put dylan in the hands of monsters instead of leaving him with his caring Foster mum who clearly loved him I the short time she had him in her care

This makes me sick! The worst thing about this whole tragedy is that Social Services was involved! They failed that baby just as bad as his sorry excuse for parents did. 12 days with a foster parent was in no way a sufficient amount of time for the parents to get their lives straight! SS also should have been doing frequent home visits and drug testing on the spot as well as physically examining that baby! They failed him just as badly as those monsters he had for parents did!

The creature that gave birth to this beautiful baby should’ve never had the opportunity to touch him. The state department of children and families should also have been held accountable.

@lesw3803.Its same here in uk kids getting failed daily.Its heartbreaking watching a baby born addicted to Herion and what the poor wee souls going through withdrawing.High pitched screaming round clock.SW in our area attitude is just because they are addicts doesn't make them bad parents.I had a neighbour who's grandson both parents were addicts.She went to the home one day to see grandson and couldn't get entry.She finally got one the neighbours to get in a window unlock door.She walked in child crawling about house full of needles.She lifted the baby.She was home and withing hour police and police Sargent turned up told her hand baby back or she would be arrested for abduction told her she would have to follow protocol go through courts etc.

When you cannot be a mother for 9 months for one life, The State must put the child in foster care until the majority. Supervised visits only. They don't deserve it.

I have been watching these out of order and the one thing that is so aggravating is the courtroom had CHRONIC issues with sound. Every single day of testimony same thing making the witnesses restate an entire session. I began to wonder if it was by design because by the second day it should have been corrected much less 5 days later. This trial would have been a lot shorter.

This makes me sick, at times it looks like the mother wants to laugh instead of fake cry, and you can tell the dad is just not engaged at all, neither one cared about this poor baby, so sad 😞

She ran for help with the pain of labor yet afflicted pain on her infant son and denied him medical treatment! Complete POS! This baby wasn't even 6months old... Life in prison &/or even lethal injection is to good for these people.
