Do you use, or have you considered the use of springtails to control mold issues, leaf litter is their food as well, but they keep mold and algae down in enclosed systems like terrariums. Just a thought.

Yes, I use springtails in all of my terraria and plant bins. Later in the Buce series I mention them. Thanks for the comment :)

Hi? How do you plant a fully submersed buce into emersed for a terrarium? Do u juat simply plant it in the terrarium after taking it out of the water?
@AnotherWorldTerraria3 жыл бұрын
I have not directly planted a submersed Buce into emersed culture, however some of the plants I received may have been grown submersed without me knowing it. Yes, you can just plant them in suitable emersed conditions and they will adapt. Make sure the humidity and wetness are very high at first, then you can gradually reduce them slightly. There may be some loss of foliage or drying out of the submersed foliage until the plant adapts to emersed conditions.
@marimbaman19693 жыл бұрын
Okay a couple questions, how long does it usually take to grow your buce to full size? For small deli container set ups, should there be a large or small amount of ventilation? And do emersed buce like low amounts of light?
@lemonlizard1 Жыл бұрын
I know it's been a while, but since buce is a genus, not a species, every buce species will take a different amount of time to grow. Most of them could take months-years. Buce kedagang is notorious for being a fast grower though

Thanks for the tip on the thumbnail. Sorry about the plant names, I would definitely post the info I knew it. Almost all of the ones I have didn't even come with any name. Most Buce in the hobby go by tradenames anyway and they are not very helpful because there are so many species and many of them look nearly identical and change appearance based on conditions. Hopefully you learned some good things in the tutorial series though, to help you grow your plants. Good luck with them!

Regarding the deli containers: Would it be suitable to use containers that originally had food in them, were washed, and then cleaned further with isopropyl alcohol? It just occurs to me that instead of just recycling plastic containers I could use them as mini grow outs. Ideas?
@AnotherWorldTerraria2 ай бұрын
Yes, you can definitely use food containers for growing plants. Clean with warm water and dye-free, unscented dish soap to remove any oils and residue, then rinse thoroughly. If you wash them like that, you don't need to sterilize them with alcohol, as there is unlikely to be any plant-harming pathogens remaining.

Is there a specific humidity that grows best without too much mold that you may have noticed? Or is it just first sign of mold increase ventilation?
@AnotherWorldTerraria4 жыл бұрын
There is no specific humidity measurement. It depends on air movement, temperature, amount of decaying matter present, substrate age, and many other factors. So, best to use a little ventilation and then increase if needed.

do you measure the humidity level in the bins? if yes how much is optional?

Hello I have a question. Is it possible to plant buce attached to rocks placed on the inner side of a backyard diy stream? The water runs almost all the time and it gets a lot of sunlight during the day. The climate here is humid and it is currently the monsoon season which means a lot of rain. But in the sunny seasons, would the sun be too harsh on them or would it be fine since they're emersed? (As in having the running water cover it but not fully). I would really appreciate your answer on this!
@AnotherWorldTerraria Жыл бұрын
I would avoid direct sun, as I believe most or all Buce prefer shaded conditions. Also you said nothing about the temperatures where you live. Make sure the temps year round stay above the min temps for the species. I don't know anything about that, you'll need to research the climate for the species.

@AnotherWorldTerraria5 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't know if the plants can survive such hot temperatures. In the heat it would be best to grow submerged. If emersed I would suggest misting many times a day to keep leaves cooler and hydrated. I don't know if Buce grow faster submersed vs emersed - I only grow emersed

@Brad Harrison Bolbitis, Anubias, etc can be grown exactly the same way as explained in this entire tutorial series. The conditions they like are the same as Buce, except for the other ones I would not use lava rock or anything that raises the pH too much (some plants won't mind the pH though. for ventilation - is using small computer type fans overkill, or would the amount of airflow from them, too much or have you tried this? I know in my greenhouse (i hybridize orchids) ventilation is very important, and knowing i keep the humidity up in the greenhouse, there is a balance between the moisture (aka humidity) and air movement to be optimum... wondering if you have tried this on your level.
@AnotherWorldTerraria2 жыл бұрын
I don't use fans for Buce but you could if you kept them very low speed AND if you had zero ventilation in order to keep the humidity super high). To be clear, air movement / circulation is different from ventilation. Movement / circulation is internal, ventilation is air exchange between inside and outside air). So no ventilation if you use fans, to avoid humidity from dropping and desiccating the Buce foliage and causing the substrate to dry up too fast. But Buce love to be wet and humid, they can take it way better than orchids can. For most orchids I almost always try to have fans, like you.

My buce emersed set up is not doing well. I'm using ada amazonia. Seeing some small growth but they look nutrient deficient. What should I do
@AnotherWorldTerraria4 жыл бұрын
Have you added any fertilizer? If not, that may be part of the problem. I use Osmocote Plus. Also, sometimes new plants take a while to get going and occasionally the new growth may not look as good if the leaf was already forming before it was transplanted. Add fert and give more time. If plant is healthy but color is pale it might be too much light. Experiment and LMK how it goes.

@AnotherWorldTerraria4 жыл бұрын
The exact humidity level doesn't really matter as long as it's "high humidity" which you can know is the case if you have a mostly sealed bin and moist substrate. Basically the higher the humidity the better. These plants can grow submersed so they obviously don't mind 100% humidity. A hygrometer isn't really necessary.
