Hi, do your plants get yellow leaves when you re-plant them (like from ordinary soil to Stratum)? I try to follow your method, but I currently have many yellow leaves, not sure why this happens. Cheers from Vienna, Holger

I have never transplanted Buce because I always received them without soil, then just planted directly using this method. You need to be sure to use a good fertilizer, like Osmocote Plus. I would also highly recommend using an additional Cal Mag supplement (Calcium + Magnesium). I use Cal Mag Complete from TPS Nutrients. I did not include this info in the video series because at that time I was not using it; I started using Cal Mag for all of my plants earlier this year. If you use fertilizer and Cal Mag, your plants should look absolutely amazing in time. Thanks for watching my videos.

Thanks for the videos! I'm wondering what you do for mold growth besides springtails and manual removal, if anything. Ever used cinnamon or hydrogen peroxide?
@AnotherWorldTerraria
@AnotherWorldTerraria 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. I’ve not tried cinnamon. I’ve tried hydrogen peroxide on a number of molds and personally never noticed any improvement. I generally don’t get a ton of mold. It helps to have lava rock above the water level so there’s less wet organic material for mold to feed on.

Thanks for your tutorial! It’s really helpful for a beginner who loves Buce recently. May I ask, when “submersed” transform to “emersed”, if the old leaves would rot and the new leaves would be the “emersed “ type?
@AnotherWorldTerraria
@AnotherWorldTerraria 4 жыл бұрын
Generally the old submersed leaves will dry out and not look as good, but they usually don't rot away. Maybe after a very long time they will eventually die and decompose, but usually they can stay on the plant. But the new growth will be emersed leaves. Buce are adapted to go from submersed to emersed occasionally so there should not be too dramatic of changes either way.

You mentioned using fertilizer in you last videos for Buce. Would you recommend that for other species such as moss/liverworts? I was considering using it for some Riccardia that I have but can't find much info on that.
@AnotherWorldTerraria
@AnotherWorldTerraria 4 жыл бұрын
Regarding Osmocote Plus, it seems to be safe for bryophytes. I use it for all of my plants, in all of my plant bins, and there is moss and liverwort in there. If I ever have moss/liverworts in separate containers and they start to look nutrient deprived, I will spray them with a little diluted liquid fertilizer such as 1/4 strength Urea Free Grow More Orchid Fertilizer. Osmocote Plus will also work, but the nutrients aren't spread as evenly as a liquid spray. In any case, feel free to experiment on small bits of different species with different fertilizers.

I sometimes fill so water is at substrate level or a little above, then let it slowly evaporate until substrate is moist but not totally full of water. To avoid stagnant water and buildup of minerals and salts, you can occasionally fill the bin with water and let it sit for a day, then dump / siphon out the water.

What about starting with bare rhizomes? Kinda cheating with all those big lush heathy buce!! I think the average person gets some crap off eBay and it melts on them a week later.... great info and series though, I found it really helpful
@AnotherWorldTerraria
@AnotherWorldTerraria 4 жыл бұрын
Starting with bare rhizomes or rhizomes with less foliage would be exactly the same process. Whether or not the rhizomes survive mostly depends on their health and the shipping conditions. If they are rotted or stressed, not much can be done. If they are healthy, they will survive and eventually grow. Note that many of the Buce you see in my videos were received as smaller plants with less foliage, and I grew them up to what you see. So I was not starting with these. Thanks for your comment / question.

Another World Terraria I have a few more questions, hopefully you are willing to answer them. I followed your method but using aquasoil and fine lava stone. after 5 days are planted, is it normal for some leaves to become soft / rotten? how to reduce it?
@AnotherWorldTerraria
@AnotherWorldTerraria 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, new plants often lose leaves. Assuming the conditions are appropriate, there is nothing you can do. They just need time to stabilize. Also, old plants can rot at any time, it is not always clear what triggers it.

@AnotherWorldTerraria

the box should have some small ventilation holes, or otherwise it should be opened occasionally for air. mist to keep the plants happy and moist, more often if there is more ventilation and higher temperatures. you can let the water in the substrate evaporate a bit so the roots are just slightly moist and then water again and then wait for it evaporate again, so the roots are not constantly wet.

springtails are not required, just an added help if you can use them. water has no effect on the smell. the smell would be from if things are decaying/rotting. although too much water for too long could case root and rhizome rot. just follow everything in the video that you can do and my other comments over the past few days and you should do well. good luck

Why can't you use potting soil instead of aquarium soil? Only reason I'm asking is because aquarium soil tends to be pretty pricey.
@AnotherWorldTerraria

Has to do with a number of factors such as ingredients/composition, pH, stability and longevity in wet conditions, etc. Generally, potting soil does very poorly when extremely wet for long periods, it becomes very acidic and anaerobic.
