Thank you! I’ve been trying to research if you can grow Cafe Au Laits in pots with not much luck then finally came across your video. This gives me the confidence now to grow them in my small backyard 😊 will watch your other videos for inspiration 😁

So glad I found you! New subscriber here. I do mostly container gardening also. This was my first year experimenting with Dahlias. I also purchased 2 of the cafe au laits and a big bag of mixed Dahlia’s from Sams. And I had the same watering urge when I first planted them. I had to remind myself no watering until it sprouts.. it literally killed me to wait!😂

Thank you so much for subscribing! Yes, isn't is so strange that the tuber has all the nutrients it needs and no water needed? How long did your tubers take to sprout? This year my tubers took longer than a month!

Oh my goodness that’s incredible!! Thank you so much for documenting your wonderful plants and the patience those beauty’s require! It’s really intimidating to start growing them! I had a sad fail last year, my first attempt 😔 They never grew any taller than maybe 12”, they were supposed to grow to be 4’-5’

No don't get disappointed, once you get a hang of them they will be most definitely be your favorite I promise! They are a bit tricky mostly with the watering but keep trying, you will get the hang of it I promise! Thank you for leaving the encouraging comment, I will get back to making more videos this gardening season!

What a stunning display! I’ve failed the last 2 seasons with dahlias. I think my mistake is that I water too much in the beginning and then they end up rotting. I will try again this ‘24 growing season. I ordered Labyrinth dinnerplate dahlia and have a designated large container to grow in. Thanks for sharing your tips and suggestions on planting dahlias!

Good luck, they are worth growing once you get a hang of it! I think figuring out the watering is very tricky, even for me after these few trials!

I am so inspired by your container garden!! What type of soil did you use to start the Dahlias indoors and did you use a different soil when you transplanted them outdoors?
@containercutflowergarden
@containercutflowergarden Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for leaving the encouraging comment! I just used the soil I had around - few pots had Jiffy Seed started mix and others had the Miracle Grow Moisture Control soil that I exclusively use in all my containers. This year I just used Moisture Control and the tubers sprouted just fine!

Thank you for this very informative video. I was looking for a detailed video on growing dahlias in containers. This was perfect. This is my first time starting dahlias in containers. I have 22 tubers in 22 grow bags and am waiting for them to sprout. It’s been a week and haven’t watered them since. But was always concerned and worried if it was necessary to water. After watching this video I will wait confidently without extra watering until sprouts come out. For the tuber that took about a month to sprout, were they not watered for that long? Were the pots under grow lights indoors? One more thing, after you noticed the ‘Cafe Au Lait’ sprouts did you water thoroughly? Thank you. Can’t wait to see more videos.

I am so glad my video is helping you! 22 tubers! wow I am impressed! Yes it is advised not to water the tubers until you see any leaves but for the ones that were taking too long I did water like a cup or half cup of water - not sure if it helped. If the tubers are taking too long then they might be blind tubers or the necks were too damaged to sprout. Once the shoot and leaves sprouted, I took the plants near a light source. No lights needed until you see a shoot come up. I watered them lightly and continue to do so when I see the top soil very dry. Remember Dahlia tubers are sensitive to too much water so be careful. I have a detailed Dahlia planting video coming up next week. Good luck!!

I planted tubers before that didn’t flower and eventually died the second year likely due to leaving it where rain killed it overwinter in zone 8b. I am doing better this year with very tall plants in two different containers father inside my south facing patio so no rain hits it and I control the moisture. However this makes them eventually start leaning forward for light. I saw you had things to hold them upright in containers. One of mine also is Cafe Au Lait. What would you recommend from experience I use to ensure they do not break off due to bending over? Currently both are about 3 feet tall and straight other than leaning. Is it common to pinch or cut off the tops? I have not touched them at all, and no aphids.

I am working on a detailed video about staking and overwintering methods but what I learnt from last year is that pinching is required so they branch out and are better stabilized. This year I am using a tomato cage, strong fiber stakes and eventually tying them to my balcony railing for extra support. This is only for 4 feet+ tall growing Dahlias. You need to tie them every 2 feet or so, they become surprisingly heavy!
@davidthedeaf
@davidthedeaf Жыл бұрын
@@containercutflowergarden hmm, good to know. I will seek some tall stakes as clearly 3 foot ones will not work for the big ones. I found that to tie plants to moss covered stakes to use the rubber ball ties that they sell sometimes around Christmas for holding up things outside. These are loose enough to not hurt growing vines and super easy to adjust. By the way good job at captioning so Deaf can read!

So glad CC on videos is helpful, I am new at KZbin so appreciate any kind of feedback on the quality of my videos! This staking tie in my experience is the best for heavy Dahlias : www.homedepot.com/p/Vigoro-Plastic-Stretch-Plant-Tie-5541/322277966 This is the stake I use, it has become pricey over the years but they are very sturdy and I can leave them out all year in the cold or heat and they look like new even after a couple of years : www.amazon.com/Fiberglass-Garden-Stakes-Tomato-2-Feet/dp/B074N917L1/ref=sr_1_39?crid=218VJ1DH6A050&keywords=vigoro%2Bstakes&qid=1685806926&sprefix=viagoro%2Caps%2C101&sr=8-39&th=1
