Thank you for this informative video, your dahlias look so well. I visited Halls of Heddon last weekend, and it was a lovely treat to see so many varieties of dahlias in bloom, Ryecroft Misty was so beautiful and I'll be adding it to my collection next year!

Hi Ingrid, thanks for your comment. I took a look at Ryecroft Misty, I agree it's a looker! You are lucky living so close to Halls of Heddon, they are a wonderful resource for us dahlia lovers.

I grow this too! From 1 tuber i buy in spring, i get 10 plants from constantly propagating it. In July when they start blooming for me, they're a pinky cream color with some lavender striations/stripes. Come cooler weather the colors for change to the classic cafe au lait color. My downside is, the ear wigs really love all mu dahlias.

Hi, that's great to hear, it sounds like you are getting the most from your CALs. Earwigs are a nuisance - I suppose you have tried the upside down straw pot? You can also try Diatomaceous earth which is an organic solution. I wish I could help more!

I have what was sold as a cafe au lait. It looks like your blooms but it is really strong pink? Bit stronger pink than the pink at the back of the flower you were checking . I would have posted a pic but cant on here. Its dinner plate sized and gorgeous though so wont complain about it not being cream. I would like to know the name

Hi Ann, thanks for you comment. Cafe Au Lait Rose is quite deep pink, so that might be the variety you have. The colour of the CAL does vary with changing conditions - air temperature, stage of season, light and other growing conditions, but I would expect to see at least some flowers much paler and not obviously pink, in the later stages of flower development, so I suspect you have a variety there. Can’t see the one CAL was named for, milk and coffee cream and buff middle. Shouldn’t be any yellow. Can have a pink blush.

Thanks Christine, yes, as you know, the colour even on the same plant can vary enormously through the season, depending on conditions such as temperature, sunlight and nutrition. Florists prize the cream ones, and shun the pink.

Pink too much of wrong food check ph and don’t apply potash if applied last season for me this gets cream and buff
