I would also suggest to wrap your hair with a silk scarf and or silk pillowcase. This will limit frizz.

I used water and JBCO in my hair daily while wearing my braids but I had a lot of slippage... Any tips to prevent that?
@MichelleIjeoma
@MichelleIjeoma 7 жыл бұрын
Ms Finds Hello love! I'm not sure I know what you mean by slippage. Do you mean oily or that the hair ends up be slippery? If so, maybe apply it every other day or every two days. That way it give your hair time to absorb the water and oil.

I mean my hair started slipping out of the braids. Maybe I wet it too much
@MichelleIjeoma
@MichelleIjeoma 7 жыл бұрын
Ms Finds oh I see! Please excuse me for misunderstanding. Yes, just mist your hair lightly. It doesn't have to be super wet or anything like that. You also don't need to put a lot of oil on either. That should reduce how slippery your hair is.

What do you think about using dry shampoo on braids?
@MichelleIjeoma
@MichelleIjeoma 7 жыл бұрын
Tiffany Hussie I am not the biggest fan of dry shampoos because usually they contain harmful alcohols and other agents that will dry out your hair, but if you can find one that textured hair friendly. I have yet to find one that I am comfortable with. Thank you for watching!!!

@MichelleIjeoma
@MichelleIjeoma 7 жыл бұрын
Queen_ 38 Sorry for my delayed response, I was out of town. When wearing braids leave-in conditions I like include Infusium 23, Hawaiian Silky Leave-in, the Girl and Hair Leave-In, or water mixed with aloe vera juice. Honestly, you can't go wrong with picking a leave-in for your braids. As long as the first ingredient is water, you are good to go! Hopefully, that helps!

So glad I found your page!! I'm also growing my hair in braids. How long have you been wearing them and how long your hair has grown so far?
@MichelleIjeoma
@MichelleIjeoma 7 жыл бұрын
Ebony Waddles Thank you so much for subbing and welcome love!!! I wore those braids for 3 months. Then I took them out to give my hairline a break. I had a weave installed twice, which gave me a 4-month break from braids. I got my braids reinstalled in October and kept it in for another 3 months. Now, I am back on a hairline break. I have seen really good results while wearing braids I grow about 2.5 - 3 inches and I retain all of my length. I think that's the best thing about braids it possible to get great length retention and see your growth if you really take care of your hair and braids. I have a few other videos where I share my braid care regimen and the products I love. I really hope this helps and if you have other questions about tips, products or whatever, I am here for you! 😘😘

Thanks girlie! How often did you wash your hair in weave? I've never had a weave and thinking about getting it installed. I just worry about not being able to keep my scalp as clean. Any tips would be greatly appreciated:)
@MichelleIjeoma
@MichelleIjeoma 7 жыл бұрын
Ebony Waddles no problem! I am glad that I can help. Let's talk about weaves. I love them, but wash days can be a PAIN because you have to get under your tracks and you have to be sure to complete dry your hair, otherwise mildew becomes an issue. I usually wash every 2 weeks because I am active and sometimes I apply oils to my scalp. However, if I am not active and I am not putting any products on my scalp, I wash once a month. I think it all depends on what your scalp feels like, hair smells like, how active you are, and if you are putting products on your scalp because you don't want to clog your hair follicles. Washing a weave is made easy by using an applicator bottle to apply your shampoo and conditioner. I try to stay away from putting products on my scalp while in a weave. I really hope this helps! let me know if you have any other questions. I think a weave would be a great protective style. Just be careful when you are picking a hair stylist to install it because some people are reckless and crazy when they aren't doing their own hair.

Fu 2 I personally like to keep it simple. If you are using Infusium 23, dilute it with a little water and you are good to go. Use a simple oil concoction for scalp massages - I say no more than 3-5 oils.
@MichelleIjeoma
@MichelleIjeoma 7 жыл бұрын
Fu 2 I wash my hair weekly or every two week - focusing on my scalp. Also, I don't spray the moisturizers on my scalp - only water. Also, I stick to pure oils that are 100% natural - without chemicals, preservatives or anything like that.

my hair is short do u have any product recommendations for me
@MichelleIjeoma
@MichelleIjeoma 7 жыл бұрын
+makayla round ross it really depends on your hair type and porosity. If you are wearing your hair out, I would recommend deep conditioning with a moisturizing deep conditioner weekly - SheaMoisture Manuka Honey intensive hydration mask is magic! I would alternate with that a conditioner that has a little protein if you are not protein sensitive because that will keep your hair protein moisture balance on point and enable you to retain your length. If you are rocking braids, keep it super simple. Water with a olive oil or a braid spray for daily moisturizing. Wash and deep condition as usual with sulfate free moisturizing products. Massage that scalp and you are good to go!

I left my braids in to long I took them down it was kida like together I had to comb it out lol I thought my hair was going to grow I am going to the 7th grade next montg I won't some more crochet braids
@MichelleIjeoma
@MichelleIjeoma 8 жыл бұрын
+Jaitajah folmar how long did you keep them in? You have to be careful with them because if your hair is coarse and thick it may matte up. That's why I stress moisturizing braids and refreshing your braids if you wear them for a while. Crochet braids are beautiful. I actually think I will try some. let me know how they work out for you. Keep your hair moisturized with those.

I get a build up of lint from the constant oiling of my hair and scalp. Braids have always tore my hair up!! In my adult life, me being 48 years old, I have worn braids maybe 3-5 times and my edges seem to always come out. Weaves are what grows my hair, not braids. Everything doesnt work for everybody
@MichelleIjeoma
@MichelleIjeoma 7 жыл бұрын
Portia P I completely agree that everything doesn't work for everyone. I think braids are tricky because there are a bunch of factors to consider when rocking them: 1) your hair to the synthetic hair ratio, 2) parting size, 3) skill level of the person installing your braids, and 4) maintenance. To avoid edge loss, you have to stir clear of tightness around the edges and you have to either re-braid them frequently or leave them out altogether. As for buildup, I oil my scalp frequently, but I also cleanse my scalp frequently and try my best to avoid getting oils on the knot of the braids. My sister is like you - weaves work wonders for her hair, and she has managed to grow incredibly long thick hair. My hair is the opposite - my hair seems to grow at a slower rate when I wear a weave, but I suspect that is because my scalp loves to be free. I wear weaves in between my braid stretches, but I plan to try wigs to see what kind of results I get with that. Thank you so much for watching and sharing!

@MichelleIjeoma

Yes, you definitely can. You can use whatever your hair likes and responds to as a daily scalp oil. I would recommend adding an essential oil like peppermint oil to give it a boost to assist with follicle stimulation.
