I found shoulder length was not my problem. I've always been natural. I've also always rinsed my hair daily and sealed the damp hair with a little oil. I got stuck at BSL for a long long time. I'd never done regular conditioning treatments and I always left my hair down rubbing on my back. When I changed to DIY hair masks and some low manipulation updo styles most of the time then my hair got to my waist.

I have wavy, almost curly, hair. It took me 10 years (with 2 set backs cutting back to chin) to get to butt length, but I did it. With my natural texture all the way. Moisture is key. Even with my looser texture, yes, moisture is key! :)

I have 4c hair. I keep it cornrowed, and every 2 weeks I take them out (pre poo) first, shampoo, tea rinse, deep condition, and corn row it back. I wear wigs, so keeping it braided helps it grow! I also do cinnamon hair mask weekly, and pre poo 2x a week. Protein treatment once a month. My hair is growing like crazy.

I went from twa to bsl in 2 1/2yrs. Little to no heat, protective styles (my go to are 2strand twists and i pin them up to a pretty bun. Spritz my hair with water EVERYDAY. What helps me retain my length is washing my hair in twists. This caused me to have less breakage because it isnt getting all matted up as im washing it in its afro state. Great tips you provided!!!

I learned from u tube what I was doing wrong. I never deep condition and put heavy products into my hair. Now I do a hot oil treatment b4i shampoo with coconut oil every time and deep condition every shampoo. I air dry and low heat on drying my hair. I seal in moisture with cool air b4 finishing my hair. I moisturized and seal hair then wrap and put a satin scarf on every night. my hair at shoulder lenght and I know it's in danger so I protect my ends by keeping it off my shoulder. Only two relaxer a year and my hair said Thank You! I see health and now length!

I know this is an old video but I'm going to tell my story. What I notice with my hair and others around me was how they wore their hair. Not only did they relax their hair, but trimmed it too often, pressed it to often and caused friction by wearing shoulder bobs 90% of the time. I too did these things but spread my relaxers apart. Instead of 5 to 6 weeks, I went 8 to 10 weeks before relaxing again. I work pony tails 50% of the time, individuals or French braids about 20%, shoulder bobs about 25% and buns about 5%. Those were my 5 go to styles. I can literally count on one hand how many times I've gotten a weave, if we don't count putting hair in for braids. On top of that, most of us didn't wash our weekly, but once a month growing up, too keep from having to press it all over again. Used the worse hair products on our hair, trying to lay down edges, wondering why we have friction alopecia. Too many passes with the hot comb from mama or us doing it. Not understanding that diet plays a roll in hair growth, and some of us can be missing vital nutrients such as IRON. The list goes on and on. I can probably remember 10 girls with hair passed their shoulders out of 100's in grade school. Only 10! And I think those 10 were because of their hair care practices.

Take prenatal vitamins they helped me out tremendously. My hair was stuck at the same length or even broken out over and over for about 5 to 6 years. I am doing very well now. Take care of your ends....put conditioner on them as well (sometimes a little more). Keep your hair moisturized never let it get dry. EVER!! Also try wild growth oil and the mane choice growth oil 😉

Alot of times people have a certain length that your hair is predisposed to grow, and it won't grow past that length. And hair grows in stages. And for people that are having hair issues they may need to see a dermatologist (they are not just for skin, they also tend to hair, and nails).

When I first started my journey my mom pressed my hair. I always had long hair. It is very thick. The relaxer left part of my hair thin in the middle. It's growing back with ginger and coconut treatments every month. I leave it on for two to three hours. And have seen great results. Now on the natural journey. I am seeing results. My hair is growing. And I have returned to what works which is grease. I deep condition my hair every time I wash it. Sit under the dryer. My style of choice is twist outs. I have notice that my hair grows when my hands are not in it. I exercise and drink lots of water, take hair, skin and nail vitamins and also eat healthy. Thank you for sharing.

Grease should only be used to lock in moisture. And not directly to the scalp but the hair shafts. Water, olive oil, coconut oil and some more WATER 😍 moisturize because water is the only moisture 4c needs😊😍.and then Grease or jamaican castro oil seals the moisture in. . works wonders...

I have cut my hair several times (shoulder length). I grew up with tight hairstyles such as braids, ponytails, etc. Even as a child, my hair grew. I relaxed my hair when I turned 15 and kept it relaxed until I was 42 and it had thinned out tremendously. I've been natural for 5 years and my hair is thicker and healthier than it was when I had it relaxed. What helped me grow my hair were deep conditioning, low manipulation, keeping my hair clean, moisturized and sealed and no heat except for deep conditioning under a hooded dryer, eating healthy, working out, drinking water, and only flat ironing my hair once or twice a year. I always let my hair air dry. My hair when I do flat iron it sits almost to my waist. Good luck everyone on your hair journey.

Leave in conditioners don't seem to work for me + there really expensive and I'm only 13 years old. I think the cheapest way to keep moisture is to use the L.O. method which is liquid and oil. I wash my hair with water and I seal it with oil and my hairs moisturized for the whole week.

Thanks so much for the video What are your thought on flat ironing? I go to the hairdresser generally every two weeks My hair is washed, conditioned dried ,flat ironed and curled. It has grown but has been at a little past shoulder length.for awhile I have considered getting my hair done just once a month instead of the every two months to see if I can see more growth.
@CurlyChemistry
@CurlyChemistry 8 жыл бұрын
Hey Cindy! If you've been at the same length longer than 6 months then there could be an issue for sure. Definitely try to cut back on the salon (heat from flatiron) to once a month and make your stylist is using a heat protectant for your hair as well. Also what you do while your away from the salon can also play a role in the lack of seeing growth, how are you handling your hair? Are you deep conditioning your hair at least once a week, etc. Daily and weekly practices can play a huge role in the health of your hair, you may just need to make a few adjustments.
@Notdoingittoday
@Notdoingittoday 7 жыл бұрын
Create With Cindy your stylist maybe trimming off too much. Heat probably isn't your issue at all. Let your stylist know that you would like to retain more length. Also how do you maintain your hair in between visits? What products are you using, do you go back over your hair with heating tools? You may need to increase washing and deep conditioning sessions. Also does she deep condition your hair, or is that an extra service? Does she use spritz/hairspray? That could cause dryness. Do you wrap your hair up at night with a silk or satin scarf? Talk to your stylist!

Hey! Are you referring to hair past SL? Either way bantu knots (without unrevealing them) paired with a cute scarf, buns, hair that's braided with your own hair where you can tuck or pin under your ends, twists where your ends are crossed over and pinned up...just to name a few. Hope this helps, this makes me want to do a tutorial. :)

If your hair was never relaxed and its shoulder length.....what do you do? That braid situation happened to me. My hair was cut at one point. It is currently growing. All I use is coconut oil and water.
@CurlyChemistry
@CurlyChemistry 8 жыл бұрын
Hey! Has your hair been at SL for a long time? If so coconut oil and water may not be enough, you may need a creme based moisturizer with water as the first ingredient to keep your hair moisturized so you can retain your length and get passed SL. Also how often you DC (deep condition) plays a part as well, conditioned hair is imperative to length retention as it provides moisture, elasticity, smoothes the cuticle, and strengthens the hair as well.

@@christine1962ful Hi Christine, I am now at Bra strap length and my hair is super full and thick !! its so crazy because i would have never thought my hair could grow long. One of the biggest tips is to find a routine that works well for your hair and then stick to that routine. For me, the biggest contributor to my hair length retention and thickness is : Onion juice on my scalp, frequent hair massages, rice water rinses, hair gummies and applying virgin hair fertilizer to my scalp 2x a week. Oh and also leaving my hair in cornrows. How's your hair journey going?

I don't use flat iron very much, maybe once or twice a year. However, I do use high heat from my blow dryer to stretch my hair . What would say about that. My hair is uneven too and I trying to grow it but it just never seem to be growing. I'm a bit frustrated.
@CurlyChemistry
@CurlyChemistry 8 жыл бұрын
High heat from a blow dryer can be damaging, make sure you're always using a heat protectant and try blow drying on a lower setting. It may take more time, but it's worth it in the long run. Also your hair is growing, but you're just not retaining your length (ends). This could be from the heat from the blowdryer or other factors. Monitor what you're doing to your hair on a daily basis and you should come up with the culprit. Hope this helps! :)

Girl 101 the only problem is it causes product build up on your scalp so if you do just clean your scalp when you wash it. I suggest Apple Cider Vinegar so it really clarifies really well

Hi Jonnette, I would recommend a good hair supplement that will help with the health of your hair. I've only used HSN by It Works and had great results with that, you can find them here: www.90dayhairchallenge.com In addition drinking enough water will do wonders for your hair and skin as well, for shedding garlic supplements are known for decreasing the rate of shredded hair. Lastly, if you can reduce or stop the use of hair dye you will see a difference in the health of your hair, especially since chemical dyes can be so harsh on the hair. Henna can be a good option, it will give a red hue, but it's much better on the hair than hair dye. Hope this helps! =)

Hello, I just watched your video that was very good by the way. I have a question I'm going to be going on a cruise next month I believe I'm going on the 15th of July. Anyway I'm going to get my hair braided. Any pointers on what I shouldn't let them do to my hair?
@CurlyChemistry
@CurlyChemistry 7 жыл бұрын
Do not let them braid your hair too tight! Seriously, this causes so much damage, braids are great, but be mindful of how tight they braid your hair. Also try not to get tiny braids, that causes to much stress on your hair. Hope this helps! :)

Bunning is great, just switch it up from time to time. Make sure before you bun, your ends are moist, give it extra TLC, and make sure to take it down each night and remoisturize if possible.

@@CurlyChemistry when bunning for PS, is it better not to use gel if we are to take it down to re-moisturise or do we just remoisturise the bun part only/ends of the hair? If no gel is to be used to style/lay the hair on the head, what do you suggest using a style cream/milk, oils etc. I'm sure you get what I mean! #CurlyChemist

Hi Charlotte! If it's breakage you need to figure out if you're lacking moisture or protein, check out my video kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaTNhqdrgNSNgqs , if its shedding, then that's normal, HOWEVER excessive shedding is not! I would check to see if there has been any changes to your health (medication), stress, etc. Changes like that could lead to abnormal hair fall, I want you to also check out this video on shedding kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3m5ap6grN6Ja8k . I hope this helps!! If not, feel free to email me at sharmaine369@gmail.com. I would love to consult you on getting back on track to healthier hair! :D

My hair was always collarbone length but I had the worst split ends so I just cut it off. I didn’t know how to moisturize my hair. I’m hoping to get healthy hair now. I’ve cut my hair. It’s still collarbone length but a lot healthier. When I put a protein treatment in it got dry and broke off. Smh.

The protein-moisture balance can be tricky, in your case you'll want to increase your deep conditioners, focus on moisture for the next 4-8 weeks.
