We continue spring garden planting on The Neals' Homestead with Sweet Potatoes. Because of uncertain weather conditions we decide to us black plastic mulch. The mulch laying machine and process are shown in this video

Hi, I'm a new subscriber, found your channel looking at the stump burning, enjoyed watching how much you enjoyed making it. I have inherited a very small homestead in south Louisiana and for the past 2 years I have been trimming oak trees and burning. I did manage to put in a nice big garden finally and it's looking good. I think the best thing about it all is this. There isn't anyone yelling hurry I'm not paying you to loaf around. One tends to work harder when it's all on your shoulders to eat or starve. Even when I my back is killing me I feel better being outside doing something than sitting in a little apartment complaining lol. Here's to Peace Hope Love and Spiritual progression!!!

Very encouraging! We have plastic on our rows and wasn’t sure if I could plant sweet potatoes. I might give it a try and also do potatoes.

We haven't had storm troubles, except keeping things wet. It seems like our ground takes forever to dry out. Thanks, Pam

We planted our sweet potatoes today. The whole garden is planted now. until the Broccoli cauliflower and cabbage are done, then we will add more things. Btw I gave you a thanks in the video I posted this evening for the elderberry plants. They look great and we have them planted in the perfect spot. Have a good weekend my friend. 😁 Cheryl

That thing is awesome..where was that contraption when I needed it!? I layed my no till like that this yr to encourage the weeds to die. Hopefully next yr all I'll have to do is add more compost. Your plants look good you got a part of my stomping grounds in your ground lol..hugs love and chicken feathers

We wouldn't plant corn in the black plastic. It needs to go straight into the ground. Thank you.

@@TheNealsHomestead Here in indiana they start the sweet corn under clear plastic. Think it speeds it up. Later plastic is removed. They start selling sweet corn end of June

They need to be watered immediately after being planted in the plastic

How do you water them? Plastic is water resistant (or not?).

When we last the plastic, the machine also lays a dripline under the plastic. Then you have to set up a supply line that each drip line connects to.
