I have 3 strawberry towers (Greenstalks), 1 lettuce tower, 1 spinach tower (fantastic), 1 bean tower, 1 pea tower, 2 flora entrance towers, and 1 greens tower. I LOVE them so much - not enough sun to grow in-ground and these are way easier to harvest, plant, upkeep few weeks, look over to destroy the bad bugs, keeps rabbits and deer away, and did I mention easy to water, weed, work? I succession plant and always have delicious fresh salad makings and 'treats' to eat while in the garden - sugar snaps, strawberries, spinach, etc. AWESOME!!!!

I have the 7 tier Greenstalk and the first year growing it. I planted it last month and have a good crop of Swiss Chard growing at the bottom tier and all kinds of different varieties of lettuce and spinach in all of the other ones. $3.00 for one lettuce at the grocery store, it will save me a lot! I start new seeds every 2 wks so I'll have plenty for ourselves and some to share. I would definitely get the spinner at the bottom so you can move it entirely in the shade later on in the year when it gets very hot or for spinning for even growing.

I’ve had wild success with my greenstalks, so much that I bought 7 throughout my first year using them. I’ve grown pretty much everything in them. I just planted a lettuce tower and a carrot tower and I’ll be planting two cooking greens towers. I also have a dedicated strawberry tower. Over the summer I grew beans, eggplants, tomatoes and peppers in different towers. I prefer to use a tower for only 1 or two similar plants because it’s easy to fertilize from the top so you want it to work for everything planted there. Love greenstalk and bought them as gifts and will be getting myself even more.

You can get the base and then they can also be used inside. Or also if height is the issue you cann split them up and do a 2 teir and a separate 3 tier. I was skeptical about it especially plastic thru snowy Winters in Nebraska but they've won me over.! Luv mine! Getting more!

Man, I really wanna get one of these sometime. I'm at work for a lot of the peak daytime hours a lot of the time, so it would be insanely cool to have one of these with a built in motor in the base to rotate, then a timer, so the tower could self-rotate and still give all the plants plenty of light, even if you can't be there! A fella can dream😂

I have 5 originals and 1 leaf and 2 towers I made out of a 32 gal tall trash can with holes made by a holesaw and a pvc pipe in the middle for water and feeding. All did fantastic for bush beans last year. I also got a decent yield for small saldette and cherrry tomatoes and jalepeno peppers as well as several herbs. My petunias and nasturtium did well in them too. I am switching from spring to summer plants in them now but the Swiss chard did outstanding and the spinach, brocolli rabe and asian cabbage did well too. Love these planters.

Love your videos. I’ve learned a lot from the channel and I grow quite a few of the same things as you. Nothing better than fresh green beans. I grow everything vertically because I’m in the Caribbean on a steep hill. I built my beds into the hill and then made trellises for beans, tomatoes but everything, even my herbs are all growing vertically. Nothing is flat here, it’s a lot of retaining walls and vertical growing. My small kitchen garden is 15 feet higher at the top if you are standing at the bottom.

This planter seems ideal for my needs but for one thing - I really don't want more plastic in my life. It might seem an odd concern since I want to use them in my back yard which is surrounded by vinyl fencing, but I had no control over the fence material since my HOA requires it. I wonder if I could make something similar out of cedar or wicker? Maybe make a basket that has a similar shape that stacks? It would not last long, but I'd rather have to re-make it each season than buy more plastic stuff.

I’m hoping to put two green stalks in my garden eventually. I have so much to do and that’s sort of in the tale end of my list. The expansion is so big I have to break it up. I’d say 80% was done this year. Fence expansion tripling my space, replacement of all raised beds to be metal, two new trellises, blueberries, apples, a memorial garden/pollinator habitat, and so much mulch…I have another trellis, 6 raised beds and a greenhouse to get in over this fall/winter. Hoping to finally just plant and maintain next spring. Fingers crossed. So much learning, so much work but it’s so rewarding and looking exactly how I imagined.

There's an absolutely legendary couple of videos from Sea Spring Seeds on how pot size controls the harvest from chili plants. I'm sure it depends on the variety as well but I think it might be that instead of 6 shishito plants, if you grow one in a large pot you'd get a lot more yield.

For watering, tower must be level, make sure grey trays aren't clogged up with soil and holes are aligned with pockets. new soil: water whole system at least 3 times over a 12 hour time period to thoroughly moisten soil. Any light, potting mix is supposed to work. Pro-mix is a recommended mix. I have to say I'm having a hard time finding such mixes. Also liquid fertilizer recommended every 10 days to 2 weeks. That's all I know. I'm sorry it has been difficult for you.

I found a small cork , placed it in each level to avoid getting soil in that area, remove and repeat on each level. I mixed a good potting soil with worm castings and pearlite for air circulation. Don’t overwater…. If say basil likes more water than what’s above, dash a little water on basil.

I use Happy Frog potting soil in my Greenstalks now. I tried some other popular potting mixes, but after the 1st year I dumped them out and replaced it with HF. All I do at the beginning of the season is add some worm casting, coconut coir, perlite and vermiculite to top them off and use liquid fertilizer once a week.

Your past videos have shown you planting out all those things you showed in the small clips, but there was never a follow up to how well they did. This video would have been a perfect opportunity. I would have loved to learn about the kales, chamomile and if you tried carrots in the green stalk. @@epicgardening that would be totally amazing to have more follow ups. Kevin shows a lot of planting out content, but I really want to see how his garden plays out over the season. Don't get me wrong, I love the guide videos and all. But I'm really curious to see how a classic 3 sisters truly works throughout a season.

AGREE, I actually had cherry tomatoes in my greenstalk but freaked out bc of Jacques container tomato video. It doesn't look like they'd have enough space so I moved them. Also I think it's important to note he said dwarf tomatoes. But regular sized peppers are okay? I'm a little bit torn on what relatively "larger" plants I can grow in summer months. Obviously strawberries...then maybe dwarf varieties of tomatoes, peppers, not sure what else

I purchased 2 of the GreenStalk vertical planters late Sep 2021. I live in south Texas and planted seeds mid-Oct. thinking I would have veggies by mid-Dec. Well...that didn't happen. Guess I planted too late. So mid-April, I directly planted green bean seeds, tiny yellow onion bulbs and leaf lettuce in the GS planter. The green beans and onions germinated well and are growing nicely, but the leaf lettuce is a bust. I direct seeded in the planter, and they aren't germinating well at all. Not sure why. Maybe it got too hot too soon for the lettuce to germinate. What I have learned growing veggies in the vertical planter is - don't plant large veggies like turnips, kohlrabi, etc. There just isn't enough surface space in one pocket for multiple veggies to grow big. This year I am using grow bags too. Kevin, I bought your book about grow bags, have enjoyed reading it and learned some great information from you. The grow bags are doing well, much better than the vertical planter. It got really hot here in April, which is unusual for this time of year, and has stayed hot. I moved my grow bags and vertical planters under the outdoor pergola so they get some sun and shade with the overhead slats, hoping to ease the growing stress of 90°-100° temps. If you have any tips or suggestions for a hot climate, I would love to know. Thanks.

I have two 7-tier green stalks and they're great! Last year we grew strawberries BUT we didn't protect them through the winter (zone 6) and unfortunately all but one of the strawberry plants died. We have some in-ground strawberry plants, so I'm hoping we can save enough runners this year to fill up our towers again next year. I have noticed that we have so many more pest problems with in-ground strawberries than in the towers, so I think that is an added reason to use the towers. I just can't seem to get any ripe in-ground strawberries before the bunnies, chipmunks, squirrels, and birds. This year I've filled the towers with flowers for the pollinators.

Excellent video as always. The backbone of my garden for the last few years has been the GreenStalk system. This year I am doing almost everything you suggested, with the exception of lettuce due to heat (we are already over 100F), in my 5 towers. I am doing Chard and Chinese Spinach as my greens; and they are already taking off. As you mentioned it in passing Herbs & Tomatoes are also super easy to do in a GreenStalk. With some fancy trellis work, I have been success growing full size indeterminate tomatoes, but the small cherry style work best (I enjoy Orange Hat). Some other things that I have found do well in the GreenStalk are Ground Cherries (if you can keep up with all the fruit drops), Stevia, and Lemongrass (though cleaning out the root mass can be some work). I look forward to seeing how the Epic GreenStalks turn out and what you will do with them in the future.

I saw a special edition greenstalk tower on the rusted garden. It was the most beautiful red colour! It was a while back and no shipping to Canada. 😥

First year using green stalk. Love them. Here are some things I don’t think I’ll grow again in them: dun peas- too bushy and hard to fiddle with keeping them off other plants above, radishes/turnips- just not enough space to grow and let their greens flourish, English lavender- too hard to control the amount of water it gets vs the other cells above or below. But absolutely recommended for so many other things!

Yes I tried radishes but our weather was unpredictable. Anyway they didn't grow. 3 per pocket is a lot bc the one that's more towards the back I don't think gets enough sun. I'm using the original 5 tier

@@flowerpixel mine grew really well, they just kept pushing themselves out of the soil early and the greens took over. Not to mention the pea vines pulled some out of the soil by trellising on the greens 😬

I have 2 greenstalks and I live in Florida. I get full sun all day. I am growing lettuce, beans, nastriums, kale, collard, swiss chard, peppers, cherry tomatoes, dandelion, herbs, arugula and testing zucchini and bok choy. Last year I actually grew brussel sprouts in mine! We love our greenstalks no bending and no weeding!

This is such a great idea, did you mentioned cherry tomatoes? Can I grow baby spinach? It's just me but if I can grow a few of my own stuff, what a savings and fresh from the garden. Thanks for the suggestions for small spaces, does it matter if it's in an enclosed patio?

I gifted my labmate the original deeper celled ones (her ex is refusing to return it to her post-divorce 😒) and she straight up grew squash, cucumbers and peppers in it. It was amazing when it was covered on greenery and her 2 kids LOOOOVED it. I wish she could have it back cuz I guess her ex is leaving it to the wayside and the kids miss gardening in it a lot. 😢

I built a strawberry tower with dollar tree stackable planters and they unfortunately dry out too quickly in our climate. I could probably make a soil mix with higher water retention, but those GreenStalks seem like they'll take care of that issue. Any idea how GreenStalks compare to the Garden Tower 2?
@ale347baker
@ale347baker Жыл бұрын
The dollar store towers are very small. I think that could be the issue.
