I have been fortunate to have had the top video on KZbin for growing tomatoes for the past year and still going strong. By far the most popular thing in that video was the way I trellis my indeterminate tomatoes. So many viewers have contacted me after trying it in their own garden and had great success. This video shows that method, plus a small upgrade to the system to grow even more tomatoes in less space!

Great video! I am a Master Gardener in Arizona and my husband and I built a pergola just to grow tomatoes under to protect them from the hot Sonoran Desert sun. We stretched 40% shade cloth on both the South and West sides of the pergola and those tomatoes did fantastically. I just harvested my last bunches of ripe ones on New Years Day as well as about 30 lbs of green tomatoes that I canned Green Tomato relish with. I'm going to use your method to attach to the top of my pergola this spring when I set out my new plants. Ordering those string spools today!

This looks like a great idea! I actually built a modified version of your trellis system by running two vertical and two horizontal members about 18 inches apart with slats on both. I could use this system to run the plants around both sides of each horizontal system I think. Will have to give it a try as soon as they become available.

I was late to gardening and your awesome videos. In fact your videos inspired me to start a garden. I’m so happy I did. Can’t wait for next spring to REALLY plant. This summer, too late for many plant to get started, We built 4 -8/4 raised beds. We had an unused RV parking area. ( asphalt) so we built the beds 24” high to prevent any problems with the asphalt leaching into the soil. Also lined the beds to keep soil in the boxes. I’m so pleased with what we did get planted...mostly by watching all your videos. Thank you for your informative videos. The best I’ve seen on KZbin.im a huge fan.

I discovered this tomato hook method about a year ago, found the company that makes them & yes they only sold them in larger quantities so not meant for the average home gardener. I also found a video showing how to DIY. But then I went over to eBay & did a ton of looking there & eventually found someone selling smaller amounts of basically the exact same thing & ordered a dozen of them. I had also discovered those round white clips about the same time so ordered some of those too.

Hello... I'm so happy I read your comment about those spools. I read that u found a video on how to DIY those. I had given some thought to that. These, I think could have other uses too. Would you be willing to share the video you mentioned. It would b greatly appreciated. Things sold to retailers are often more ecpensive than necessary. I'm all for making a profit, however, it seems these days that mark-up is often so greedily astronomical that you often feel raped once you learn the sellets mark-up percentage. While I wanted to support this guys efforts & hope to see our marketplace more open, for many reasons, I must say that I'll be very surprised if the company does offer these for general retail sales at a reasonable price. I'd like to see the video you mentioned. I haven't found it. Thank you so much for your time and thoughtful consideration...

Just watched several of your videos on trellising, 6-6-2022 and built my own trellis out of 1" galvanized pipe several years ago. It's been working very well, but I have always struggled with what to do with the excess growth when the cordon reaches the top. My tomatoes plants are now about three feet tall and will try to adapt your hook and prune method to my pipe trellis. I'm growing nine different single varieties on my 12 foot long trellis. I'm stating all new varieties this year that are all heat tolerant. I'm in a 9a growing zone, East of Sacramento, with consistent Summer temperatures over 90 F.

Basically you're saying that by the end of the season the first tomato plant would have been moved all the way around the trellis until it comes back to it's original spot? I'm interested for sure! SO another Question. Do you plant your tomatoes in the same bed every year and if you do how do you amend the soil so that it isn't depleted of what the tomatoes need to be healthy? I live on a (red clay) mountain in Northern Arkansas that is Covered in Huge Oak trees. There is one spot on this place that gets enough sun and luckily for me it is also the only 'level' spot, but it is small so I don't have the luxury of crop rotation.

I hope they are able to produce the hooks soon! I am super excited to try this out! I am going to try this in my 20 gal. Smart Pot with just 1 tomato plant. I built CaliKim's DIY tomato cage and I am going to put some kind of top to rotate the plant around to different parts. Wish me luck!
