Growing Broccoli in the Heat of Summer

Welcome!! I here this a lot. I am a native and been gardening since I was 11 yrs old. Our past climate was consistent up until the mid 80s. This is when I started seeing a shift in our Colorado climate. Our climate has now became bipolar and unpredictable. One tip I would like to leave with you is do not expect the current season to be the same as the subsequent seasons. Being able to adapt on a dime is important. For example look at my video when we got snow in May, that was totally unexpected; however, overtime I had been investing in frost blankets and was able to adapt to this unexpected change and save my crops and garden.

Your yard is beautiful! I'm giving cold weather stuff another shot here in Wilmington Delaware this year. I only got 4 good bunches before it bolted last year. I'm hoping an earlier start, heavier mulch to keep the roots cooler and shade cloth will give me more of harvest before they bolt.

How did it go? I'm in Wilmington too. I started broccoli inside and need to move it out soon but it's still hot here on labor day!

I learned there heat resistant broccoli that can grow in 100F, maybe those could be fun too.
