my initial thought with my first florida garden was to grow my staples (tomatoes and cucumbers) and try a few new things (herbs and peppers) but i have a couple of extra bags of soil i'm going to experiment with now (carrots and peas). thank you for giving me the information and confidence to play!

I wish I found this a few months ago 😭 I planted my carrots a month ago and I’m in Jacksonville and I thought I was planting them early! 🤦🏼♀️ I’m going to see what happens but will definitely be trying again in October/November!

There's a good chance you'll get a harvest. May just not be quite as big as they could have been.

Aloha Elise! I saved my seeds from.ladt year! I practically need a magnifying glass to see them! I was thinking of mixing them in a bit of soil and spreading that? I saw a KZbin, where he covered his seeds with a board to help keep them moist until he saw them germinate, said they really need to be kept moist. Thanks for your thoughts! Cecily

Hi Elise, I just had to replant my carrots here in Pasco, something came through my garden and dug them up, I don't have all of my garden fenced in, I planted Baker Creeks Chantanay red core, I will cover it this time with some chicken wire and netting over the top, hopefully I can get some carrots this year, I follow you also on Instagram, I would love to visit your garden one day, have a great weekend!

I have a veggie pod here in Central FL, and I'm so clueless. This is helpful. I've planted a lot and harvested nothing yet, lol. I am not sure when lettuce is ready - basically when it looks edible?

thank you it was informative. Can you talk about eggplant and how to have a success with growing them. I am having a pest problem. I don't know whats eating the leaves. I try neem oil, and i try covering them, the are still getting devoured. Please help.
@TheUrbanHarvest2 жыл бұрын
my video on eggplant: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3_EloJ9jMata9E hard to say on pest without seeing but neem can take time. up to several weeks and covering them if the pest is already there wont slow them down.

I see a lot about raised beds, but do people ever do below ground beds? Like dig out a bed, wall it with wood, and then fill in with soil? I would think that would help offset the heat right?
@TheUrbanHarvest2 жыл бұрын
the wood would rot incredibly fast. and it leaches quicker when mixed with sand.

Hey there! It’s 12-28 and I am in Tampa. Is it too late to plant more carrots every other week? At what date should I stop planing more?
@TheUrbanHarvest3 жыл бұрын
They take about 3 months depending on type. I would plant through January. Maybe pick a heat tolerant type and continue into Feb but that would be about it.

Hi Elise. Not sure if this was covered in another video but I was hoping you could help. I live in sw Florida, on well water and have been using water from the well to water my vegetables. Some of my veggies didn’t do so well last season and I’m thinking maybe the water had something to do with that 🤷🏽♀️ The only options to water my garden would be that or treated well water and I’m sure treated water would be worst. Is there something I can do to either of these two water options to make them better? I do have a rain barrel but it isn’t big enough to last a long time.
@TheUrbanHarvest3 жыл бұрын
you can have it tested for salt content which is the biggest issue with well. Have good drain soil can also help counter balance that.
@mitflipz47743 жыл бұрын
Hi! Ty for the video! How often are you watering your carrots? Thx!

I water them same as the rest of my garden. About every other day right now.

Hi Elise! Thank you for this informative video. I noticed that you said that growing carrots in summer months will lead to poor root formation. Is this also true for radishes? I have been trying radishes but the roots don’t seem to form. I tried some seeds in late September but they aren’t really forming the bulbous root. Is this because of the Florida weather? Is there a better time to plant them or is Florida just not a good climate for radishes? Thank you!
@TheUrbanHarvest3 жыл бұрын
They grow here in fall/winter/spring too. They need cooler weather and consistent watering but aside from that should grow great here.

Where do u get your seeds?
@TheUrbanHarvest2 жыл бұрын
Southern exposure for most of them. Baker creek if not. I do have a curated collection of see on my website for variety that grow well in Florida.
