I just got some pom pom dahlia seeds this week. I can't wait to see them bloom. Looking forward to seeing your new set up.

I'm exicted to see their progress! I grew some from seeds last year but they were really small. I wasn't able to find bigger dahlias seeds. I'll have to try again next year!

Awww well hopefully they were beautiful all the same 🤗

I’m trying some from seed this year too. Although I’ve ordered a bunch of tubers.

Just a note on dinnerplate dahlias, I plant my tubers 6" below the top of the soil so that if the plant tips, the stem will not break away from the tuber. I use a 1 gallon pot as a template. Dig a hole and if the one gallon pot sits in it with its rim level with the soil, I have a 6" hole. This means that when I start my tubers - and cuttings - I plant them deep in a pot and fill in as the stem grows. I noticed your cuttings were probably planted about 3" deep, this means that in order to use soil to support the stem, you will have to dig deeper than 6". Of course, you may opt not to use soil to support the stem but for me its the only way.

No, there is something to add: if you get original seeds from wild mexican dahlias they will look exactly like the mother plant. Thank you for recommending that book about hybrid dahlias. Next year I will buy edible dahlia varieties.

I actually did not know that re: seed being true to wild Mexican dahlias. Thanks for sharing!

I always save seeds & last yr my marigold saved seeds grew to about 3 or 4 ft tall and came from regular height flowers, thought it was a bit strange never had that happen before.

Hmm do you know if it was an open pollinated or hybrid plant that you saved seed from?

Hi! I didn't do a specific video on results but it's in the farm tours from 2022 (August/September!)

Is there an update? Or a video showing how they turned out this yr? I have been looking through your videos and can't find it. 😔
@bareflowerfarm Жыл бұрын
Hi nickie! The last 7 min of the Oct farm tour video shows all the dahlias I have, and I talk about which came from seed and which didn’t. Hope that helps!

@@bareflowerfarm yay! Thank you, ima go watch now. I am currently hand pollinating my dahlias, I got good blooms from my last yr seeds but the bees pollinated those. I'm curious to see the dinner plates 🤗 Live your videos! Your doing an amazing job 💗
