I just want to say thank you for introducing to the joy of getting free plants. I got a whole painted succulent plant from the store and I did ask lol.Oh and NOO it isn't stealing at all. It will all be in the garbage if we don't save it

I’m also in SoCal. We finally got past the horrible heat wave that lasted for too long. I discovered your channel about the time the heat wave started. I made some lovely proplifting finds with every visit to HD and Lowe’s. During the heatwave, Very few leafs made roots and pups. But Hurricane Kay was kind! She ended the heatwave and added moisture to the air, and early all of my babies have sprouted roots and pups! I’m so happy! We plan on replacing our parched front lawn with a rock garden with succulents! And most of the succulents were free!

Sounds amazing! And even better when it’s free right?! I lost some nice succulents to sunburn last week as well, but I think many of them will bounce back given time. Best of luck with your leaf babies ❤

I have picked up leaves and pieces for years off the ground or tables in stores. Come to find out my daughter does it also. I look at it like the stores would throw them away. Enjoy your videos.

Thanks for the video! I picked up a succulent leaf (unsure what type) years ago, and just kinda put it in a pot with dirt tilted towards a window in my room. Turns out I did the first method on accident! I’m so happy with my little plant and it’s nice to have a guide since I was just winging it before. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more succulent leaves!

Glad to come to this channel..you helped me a lot. And I got the correct soil for them and mist them when dry...you are sweet and wonderful and honest. A hundred thank yous as I started doing what you said about family and friends and shopping centers and home Depot and Lowes...I have plant lights too that make all the difference as I live in KY and it's off and on with heat right now...do they need humidity a little bit,?

thanks for sharing. just recently found ur channel. in my case, I found plenty free succulents in a bit shady way lol. Lot of people gifts "succulent bouquet" these days and the owner often is not a big fan of succulents. They left it where the cleaner will chuck them away. I find myself should do sth to give them new life. So once I found a succulent bouquet left near the bin, I took some of them home -> repot -> take care of them.
@FreePlantsForever2 ай бұрын
Not shady at all!! If someone is throwing them away they're as good as yours as far as I'm concerned.

Once it is rooted in dry soil, how (often) do you water it? Very cool!

I really enjoyed this video. Never thought about the water propagation method using plastic wrap. I’ll give it a try (good way to reuse my grandsons baby food jars) Thanks again 🙂
@FreePlantsForever2 жыл бұрын
Happy to help! Yeah the water with plastic wrap is an interesting method, also works great for leaves such as zz plant and peperomia 💚🌱
@mollypeplau35642 жыл бұрын
I have tried air propagation, soil propagation, and the plastic wrap method. I had zero success with the first two methods, but with the plastic wrap method, I have 100% success! Also, you don't have to worry about misting it or checking on it because the moisture in the container keeps it at just the right level.

@@mollypeplau3564 I’m trying the plastic wrap propagation after watching the video. Looking forward to seeing how it goes 🙂
@FreePlantsForever2 жыл бұрын
@@mollypeplau3564 Yes, that's a great point about not having to constantly mist or check on it! Plus the condensation it creates should also help with encouraging root growth too.

Thank you for such a great video! I’m trying the soil method (from leaves) and it’s still early days but when do you actually plant them in the soil properly? Simply when they have decently sized roots? Or when some kind of a stem starts to show? Excuse my ignorance but super new to all this!
@amyericksen2447Ай бұрын
How long do you wait before planting the roots or the pups? Do you wait until the leaf has dried completely? I am a first time succulent grower, and your video was so helpful! Thank you!
@FreePlantsForeverАй бұрын
Depending on the method of propagation. If you've got the leaves placed on soil, they should naturally root themselves into the soil - but if you're using water or another method, I wait until the roots look fairly strong, and keep the mama leaf attached as it will fall off itself naturally.

Do you have a soil mix that you use for propagating succulents

Im having bad luck with getting succlent leaves to make babies. Im not sure what Im doing wrong. I have success with 3 that I foun, took root and are going strong. My leaves just dont want to do anything.
@FreePlantsForever2 жыл бұрын
Sorry you're having trouble. I've found that some varieties do better than others, and some plants require stems to propagate, such as all the "string of" varieties. I've had the best luck with sedums or grapto-type succulents such as ghosties or Fred Ives. I've found Aeonium leaves don't propagate well, but do fantastically well when propagating from a stem. They do require some warmth too, so if you're doing it indoors you could try a heating mat. Best of luck!

Get a plant light for ten dollars and keep it one yardstick physically away.
@yzhang3284 Жыл бұрын
You can also just leave the leaf on a surface with nothing on it, it will grow pups and/or roots either way, doesn't need soil. If you wanna learn more go to sunny side up, she sells succulents by propagating so she is a expert

I found pieces of a vine on the sidewalk at Walmart.. they had been stepped on several times, so I brought them home and put them in water. I don't think that's stealing.

@pomroy65 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s stealing either 😊
@miikku71004 ай бұрын
Agreed, I get that the plants that someone keeps thriving do cost money to buy but when it comes to abandoned parts that are otherwise going to die and don't affect to any other plants, I don't think that anyone really owns them anymore. Until one brings them home to take care of course!

Thanks so much for this! Can you propagate indoors during the winter? Its been about a month but so far nothing for my leaves or stems. Im not sure if its cuz it's winter or if i did it wrong by bottom watering instead of misting? Any help would be appreciated. Its a sedum. Thx
@FreePlantsForever10 ай бұрын
Indoors is fine, but it is worth checking to see if your succulent goes dormant in the winter. Different succulents have different growing periods and you may just have to wait out the season.

I just found your channel.. when do you plant these pups in soil and what type of soil?
@yzhang3284 Жыл бұрын
I'm not her but I have experience, and you want to pluck the pups off when the big leaf is shriveled and plant in a succulent mix. Good luck!

I just found a few broken leaves on the floor @ Walmart from a fallen STONECROP PLANT 🌱 How do I propagate it ??? HELP 🙏🏾SOS ☹️Thanx in advance 🌱
@FreePlantsForever Жыл бұрын
Just place it in soil! Keep it warm and in bright, indirect light and don't over-water. It should start to root.
@tonipadgett72082 жыл бұрын
So is it necessary to add water to the water propagation jar?
@FreePlantsForever2 жыл бұрын
I"ve found that with the plastic wrap, the water doesn't evaporate, but definitely keep an eye on it. If there is no plastic wrap or if the weather is particularly warm, there could be some evaporation and it will need to be refilled.
