I have a red fescue, blue grass mix in my shaded areas to blend with the overall blue grass lawn. It looks good and grows very well, its just not as tough in heavy traffic areas like our back yard.

Tall Fescue King! 👑Thanks for the vid. TTTF's shade tolerance is understated.

JG Shady nooks is the best for Shades in cool season lawns. It took me 2 years to figure it out. Dont overdo watering or fertilizing and you would be fine

JG is just okay in my experience.

I have seasonal shade in a section of my yard, in the spring it has sun and grass seed grows fabulous and fast, in the fall half my yard is shaded and grows very slow, but it will germinate.

You think it's a bad idea to lay sod in shadow of garage during late fall? Because the shadow takes up more area, and longer per day... Planning to use tall fescue

If you get a few hours of sun at any point in the day it should be fine

Those patch repair products dont contain very high quality seed, go with something that is a higher quality. United Seeds has great products and my followers get a 10% (Turf10)

Fescue looking 🔥! I've found, like with most ornamentals 6 hours of morning sun with afternoon shade is great for TTTF. Gives it a little break from getting scorched by the afternoon sun. The opposite however, morning shade with afternoon sun is very difficult to manage. Wet morning turf coupled with extreme sun/heat later in the day can be a recipe for disaster! Ask me how I know... 😂
@TurfCulture2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, my backyard is all afternoon sun and the dew sits in the leaf tissue for quite some time.

Cant really help you there, I've never managed turf in Utah. That said, Utah's climate is ideal for Kentucky Bluegrass.

My dilemma is my lawn gets full sun in the summer, then my house completely shades the lawn in fall. I didn't realize this until recently, and I just killed my lawn and re-seeded. I did get certified seed with 4 top producing tttf cultivators. We'll see 🤞

You will still probably have a good result in full sun.

Nothing beats hard fescue in the shade. It will do better in the shade than creeping red.
