Great videos! thank you. The topic of microgreen-mushroom integration is a favourite of mine. Using worm-processed-spent mushroom substrate as microgreen medium is an excellent idea. Another option is growing microgreens in a predominantly coir + vermiculite based medium and post harvest using this as substrate to grow mushrooms in. I've been practicing this successfully for awhile now. The post harvest coir is supplement with hard wood pellets, gypsum and bran. Following the mushroom flush(es) I feed it to the worms for garden compost.
@GroCycleTV4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a great way of doing it! I assume you sterilise this before using as substrate for mushrooms? We tend to grow our mushrooms on non sterile substrate so use it as growing medium after mushrooms rather than before, but if you are sterilising your mushroom substrate then doing it the other way round makes sense. Nice one :-)

Very interesting video. I'm from Brasil (south) and there are three engineers in Sao Paulo that are growing vegetables in a vertical "greenhouse", all the system is controlled and they use LED lamps for the plants "work" 24 hour a day. The system is so well controlled that they don't use any pesticide and is 100 times more efficient than the regular growing system (field). It's a very good way to save space and produce huge amount of food. Joining this system with the two systems that you talked in the video, would be a very good ideia.

Alon Lahav ... Compost is not a good media for microgreens, as it has a high nutrient content. The microgreens grow perfectly on coco coir which do not contain much, if any nutrients. That is because the seedlings rely on the nutrition provided by the seed for the initial grow. If you want to grow the plants to maturity, then of course they will need added nutrients, but microgreens are usually harvested before. Use your worm compost in the garden instead 😉

Really helpful video. Let's do the math on the mushroom profit mentioned for 10 hours work (was that per week?) With 22 lbs of Mushrooms selling for about $220 U.S., that means Gross profit is $22/hour. Deduct overhead, the cost of the consumables to make the mushrooms, etc substrate, innoculum, electricity to run humidifiers, exhaust fans, taxes to the Gov, etc and you aren't going to be left with much. Perhaps $15 an hour if you're lucky. That's pretty disappointing. The Microgreens at 17.5 lbs, 8hours work, means $65 an hour. Certainly better, but a lot less actual take home money, once all your overhead is considered. Let's not forget time spent securing & maintaining customers, delivering product, gas costs, researching suitable packaging material, doing your bookkeeping, paying your staff, maintaining your website and all the other many things a self employed person does. Perhaps it's better to just grow for oneself. ;-)

@GroCycleTV5 жыл бұрын
Nice thought Jake...I think the main issue would be the light that the Microgreens need to grow causing mushrooms to start pinning before you want them to....light is one of the main pinning triggers, so normally the incubation space is kept dark. Best option would be to duct the co2 rich air out of mushroom incubation and into a room next door where microgreens are growing.
@ChristineBestdotcom2 жыл бұрын
@@GroCycleTV Would a short stint in the incubation room hurt or be helpful when the microgreens are first placed in seed trays and stacked prior to them sprouting and needing a light source? This may also depend on the seed needing light to germinate.
