I plant some of my green beans on the twin sign. Bushes will be huge and will hang over in the row. You can pull these up. Plant some on the fish sign for smaller bushes that will keep on bearing. Hope this helps. Happy gardening.....love the video.....

Great harvest...your bean plants look amazing. I planted mine in a raised bed and way too far apart. I'm going to follow your dad's advice next year.

You can avoid having a hard time removing the cover by applying a very thin bead of vaseline around the inner edge of the canner, where the wall is at an angle. Needs to be redone every 2 or three uses by wiping away the old vaseline and adding a new bead.

I am in North Texas, and I just picked some my Blue Lake beans today. I have about 50LF or so. I got a large basket of beans and I plan to can them. We ate our last jar from last year this week so, yaaa Blue Lake beans can up very good.

This was a great informative video- we just grew our first batch of these beans and I underestimated how much room they needed to grow lol. But I did do a small harvest yesterday and wasn’t sure how to can them next. Ps- we grow organically as well. Neem Oil is the only thing we used- just a single treatment

How far apart did you plant the seeds? Your farm and veg beds look beautiful. I havnt had a lot of success with bush beans which I need to become more skilled at growing. What about your soil, what type of soil do you have and what's in it? Iv got sandy soil which requires a lot of building up. What type of soil do beans love. Thanks for sharing your canning process too. Cheers from Western Australia

Been there and done that! Jar breakage happens and poor sealing happens for a couple reasons....overall...great job and video! I feel if you have not broken a jar, you did not can very much. Jar failure is not always fault of the jar but because they were over filled, or caught a cool breeze that shattered the glass. I have used very old blue jars with no problems. They may be considered vintage, for me they are just blue jars!

Great video! My wife does a lot of watch bath canning for jams and salsas. Haven’t done much pressure canning even though we have my Mom’s canner. This took some of the mystery out of pressure canning. Question: did you have the jar lids in hot water before you put them on the jars? Couldn’t see what you were plucking them out of with the magnetic stick. Thanks again for sharing! 👍🏻
@SheratonParkFarms
@SheratonParkFarms 10 ай бұрын
Yes. They are in hot water before we put them in the jars. I think it softens the seal a little bit. Then we pick them out with the magnet. Thanks for watching.

After canning, do these have a similar texture to the canned green beans you get from the store? My son is picky and I have to admit I am too, although I will eat fresh green beans if that's what's offered, where my son won't. I'm hoping he will eat the blue lake bush beans I have spent a lot of time learning how to grow and growing!

How many quarts of greenbeans did you end up getting from your garden throughout the season? I'm trying to plan out for next year. I got three pickings from my greenbeans this year but they were very sparse from two 4x3 beds. I think I need to build a much larger Greenbeans bed to get to my minimum goal of 60qts.
@SheratonParkFarms

Why don't you add some Lemon Juice to the Bean Water and not salt !?! That way, they would keep their lovely 'Green' Colour. To that of dull 'beige'. (Sorry, reminds me of School Dinners here in the UK, back in the 70's !!! Everything was over cooked and washed out in Colour (!) And so mushy ! I've always wondered why, Stateside, that it is called 'Canning' when it is Glass Jars !?! In the UK it's called 'Bottling'. Even though it's Jars too. 😆 Know that Napoleon came up (probably a lacky did the work of...) with / Invented Canning, to feed the French Army... But that was back in the 1800's !!! The French love their Green Beans or 'Haricots Verts' and they keep them the full length, and cook them to stay lovely and green with a bit of Lemon 🍋 Juice... French Cuisine isn't beige... Just saying.
