Update! A few weeks after I took this video, I did end up sowing another batch of snapdragons but this time, I sowed them straight away without putting them in the fridge. The result? I didn't see any difference in germination from those that I had chilled. While this wasn't a true experiment, I probably won't add the extra step of chilling the seeds going forward.

Hi Margaret! We just got more snow here today too…hang in there; Spring is going to come for us soon I hope! Great unique varieties you’ve chosen! Cheers! 😊

Hi Steph! Fingers crossed that we'll be out there sooner rather than later!

Wow those are gonna be some beautiful snap dragons. I never seen some of those varieties before..

I'm really looking forward to growing them!

Thanks for the tip on placing snaps in the fridge. Seems like more and more flowers have this treatment on you tube. I am from Southern Ontario as well and jealous of Roots and Refuge as one that is gardening in t-shirt. We got a major snow dump last week in Woodstock. I think gardening is going to have a late start.

Hi Lois! It does look like we may be having a late start this year. With our strange weather in the past few years, though, you never know - sometimes things turn around from one day to the next - fingers crossed that we too will be out there in t-shirts sooner rather than later!

I did my first film in the garden today, although won't be posting til tomorrow. I'm in Campbell River on Vancouver Island, the crocuses are up and it was 11celsius today! We did get 3-4" of snow last Sunday night though.

Zone 6b SE Massachusetts. The variety Night and Dawn said the color deepened when the temperatures got colder. I was wondering if they were a Group 3 Snapdragon to grow for fall. Are you familiar with the different groups? If not listen to Dave Dowling’s podcast with the Gardener’s Workshop. Happy Gardening!

Hi Nancy! That's a great question - I have heard of the different groups but don't know that much about them. I did a bit of googling and couldn't find any reference to the group for this particular variety other than it blooms well in both spring and fall in warm climates and all summer in cool climates. I'll make sure to listen to that podcast episode - it may shed some light on where Night & Dawn falls. Thanks for the suggestion!

Here in northern Canada Zone 4b, I have 6 ft of snow on my back yard. I have a feeling we will have a late spring. Our last frost date is usually May 21. My daughter’s favorite flowers are snapdragons, I bought a few varieties from Baker Creek, I’m just waiting for them to arrive.

Wow - that's a lot of snow! Baker Creek have such great varieties, don't they? Your daughter will have so much fun watching them grow!

I also live in zone 5b, however I'm from Newfoundland, and currently also buried in snow with another 20cm forecasted for tomorrow.

Hi Donna! I think we are getting your 'tomorrow' snow today - at least an add'l 12" on the ground so far!

@@TheGardeningMe oh gracious. I hope both of us don’t get too much more. Lol. I so want to be able to see bare ground so I can at least dream about gardening again. Lol

Not garden related, but my sister and I had cats growing up, mine was Marigold and hers was Blossom! 😄🍀🪴⚘️

I love that, Soleil! What's funny is that we picked her out and only found out after the fact that her name was Blossom. That totally clinched the deal!

I’m in zone 5a (NY adirondack area) and we got a foot of snow last week. I tried some winter sowing of snap dragons this year and am curious to see what happens. I got the twinny dwarf series. Doing both winter sowing and indoors to compare germination. Lori
@TheGardeningMe Жыл бұрын
Hi Lori! Well, you and I are thinking along the same lines as I'm also doing a few winter sowing 'tests' for some of the plants I'm growing this year, although I haven't done snapdragons. I would be really interested to know if you are successful with them! P.S. I took a quick peak at the Twinny series and I LOVE the double blooms! I've added that one to my future list - thanks for the inspiration!

@@mudandinkteaching My winter sown snaps did really well! I did them in milk jugs. I think I could start them earlier - I was pretty late doing them at the beginning of March.
