I hope you get some rain. Here in upstate NY it’s been in the 70s and this past week we were in the 90s rain today and back in the 70s. I said we are the coolest on the planet lots of cool temps and rain. Love the new snapdragons. I bought 4 snapdragons 4 packs half dead for a dollar each. I got them home watered them and within a hour they were looking amazing. They are still looking great, best snapdragons ever. I do not know what kind they are. I still can’t believe it.

Maybe you can let them go to seed and collect the seeds!

I bought 4 snapdragons for my windowbox and sprinkled snapdragon seeds around them from last years harvest and I ended up with about 50 flowers!! I even overwintered them for this year...so easy to grow but a lil slow, i love that snaps are a cool weather plant

Lol! I did the same thing here in Alabama. It's finally in the 90s instead of the 100s, so it's time to enjoy fall and plant some things out. It's pretty ridiculous that 92 feels so amazing.

Hope you get some rain and a cool down. We're having a heat wave and a moderate drought on the east coast but nothing like what you've been experiencing. Beautiful selection of snapdragons. I started some from seed, last winter, for the first time using the winter sowing method. They took a long time to germinate and until July to get big enough to plant. I stuck them in the ground never thinking they would survive the summer heat but they did and are starting to bloom.

Yay, glad you are starting to get some blooms!

I've had good success planting snaps via winter sowing in milk jugs in Dec/Jan. Just saying in case viewers can't get around to indoor sowing right now. Love the varieties you are sowing.

Let it rain in Texas! I hadn’t realized how hard it was to garden there until I moved to South Carolina where it actually rains during the summer. I have dahlias blooming this year.

Hi! Just started watching your channel and really enjoy the content! I’ve been able to get my snaps to germinate but then that’s all!! They stay tiny and have yet to make it into the garden… they are surface sewn, I use vermiculite, under grow lights with humidity dome!!! I watch them like a hawk and yet …no love back😊 ???
@shesamadgardener Жыл бұрын
The humidity dome needs to come off as soon as they germinate … they need airflow once they have leaves so they don’t rot. You should also consider feeding them a liquid fertilizer like Alaska Fish Fertilizer … they need nutrients to grow.
@doramaldonado4460 Жыл бұрын
Already have the stinky stuff … fish fertilizer… :) will add that to the mix! Also do like your seed trays better than 72 cell ones… easier to manage! Thanks so much!

Last year my snapdragons were too short, so I was careful to buy the taller ones this year and I was very pleased with their growth. I, too, grow in a smaller area, mostly because I lack 6-8 hours of sun anywhere on my property. Do you need the same full sun area when starting in the fall? I realize the days are shorter, but for me the position of the sun (east side of my house) becomes less and less which makes me feel fall planting might not work.
@shesamadgardener Жыл бұрын
I planted in full sun for the fall. Consider starting them in containers that you can move into full sun and then getting them into the ground once the days get longer in the spring.

Hi Amanda, I’ve never planted a snapdragon, and I just saw some pretty ones at Home Depot in Arlington, TX. Is this a good time to plant them? I was thinking east side w/ morning sun. Is that enough sun? Thanks for all your help!
@shesamadgardener Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can plant them now … be sure to give them some mulch over the winter and they can come back strong in early spring depending on your zone.
@shesamadgardener Жыл бұрын
Oh just saw your location … they need at least 6 hours of sun and you should be able to overwinter them.

I use the same seed starting system. My germination rate is excellent but I find they seem to just "Sit" for what seems like forever until they get the first/second true leaves. Specifically with snaps how long does it take for you to see their true leaves? I wonder if my seed starting medium is the problem. What have you found works well? And what do you fertilize with? I am also in zone 8b and am fall planting. So appreciate your input!
@shesamadgardener4 ай бұрын
It’s probably fertilizing … I use Alaskan fish emulsion at 50% strength … works like a charm!
