For 3 years we belonged to an independent offshoot group of the Worldwide Church of God. What happened there, shortcomings of groups like that, and what is the current state of the Worldwide Church of God? #worldwidechurchofgod #cults

My buddt in HS was in this cult also. What about being encouraged or forbidden NOT to join the military?

yes they were forbidden from military service or any type of public service and strongly opposed to anyone being in entertainment.

I’m currently a “Bible Church” that I can best describe as Baptist, but it doesn’t pay dues to the SBC or anything like that. Wonderful pastor, people and all. Being the critical thinker that I think I am, I notice so many inconsistencies with what the text of the Bible says. And a lot of reliance on what we want it to say to make everyone feel good. I can’t help but notice that what makes most people feel like they landed on the right church for them is rooted in Paganism. Human nature being what it is loves paganism. Most churches can’t even agree on the basics like the Ten Commandments. I understand that we are saved through the grace of Christ’s sacrifice. But seriously, we don’t have to walk by any standard of conduct and disregard God’s commandments? I’m pretty sure we’re supposed to walk by Christ’s example, but maybe that’s just too burdensome :(

We live according to God's principles because we ARE saved, not to BECOME saved. Any conduct we follow does not save us. It is strictly by the grace of God through the blood of Christ. If you're having difficulty in processing this, I would strongly encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. He will give it to you. Wishing you all the best.

@@raybo1018 What you said is exactly what I believe. There is not a single commandment that I follow or sacrament that I can make that will save me. We must repent and be baptized. Repentance meaning we are sorry and except Christ’s forgiveness and then I assume, walk on His footsteps and witness the gospel to others. But what I’m hearing and witnessing is “well since I am saved by grace, my conduct really doesn’t matter anymore”

@@joeybanez310 nothing we do or don't do will save us. We are all depraved. None of us can do good or follow God's standards perfectly. In fact it was one act of disobedience that brought about the fall of the human race. When we don't go by God's standards, are there consequences? Absolutely. Our God is a loving Father who disciplines us. But we don't get cast off for sinning, then nobody could ever be saved.

@@raybo1018 yes. Once again, I agree. We cannot live perfectly as Christ did, therefore we are doomed if not for Christ’s sacrifice. But since you put it in these terms “God’s principles” and “God’s standards”, how are these standards enumerated or expressed as an example for us to follow? Or is it just a tingly feeling that lets us know we are doing the right thing according to scripture?

My grandfather knew HWA and my parents knew Garner Ted. It was funny when Garner Ted did the interview with Playboy. We have one splinter group here in Honolulu..i forgot the name. I've never attended. I did go to a Shepherd's Rod service at their commune on the other island.
