Had a great time teaching my kids how to execute a prescribed fire. Because of the content provided by you guys I had the confidence to do it.

Love your prescribed burn videos!!! Very educational and inspiring. Wife and I are taking a burn class in April. We’re south of you just a hair near Clinton, AR Thank you for another great video!!

After watching your videos I feel really comfortable burning various types of habitat. Burned about 15 acres by myself on Sunday in SE OK. The fire jumped my break once but it was easy to spritz out with my ATV sprayer. Going to hack and squirt next weekend hoping to keep some trees from leafing out to increase sunlight to the Forrest floor. Thanks Dr Grant and Daniel for really good, clear and concise Instructional videos.

That is awesome! Hey - hack and squirt works best once leaves are out and fully formed and before they turn colors. Girdle and squirt works all year.

Man I tried one a few days ago. It burned 5-6 ft into the timber but just couldn't keep it going. Decent amount of leaf litter, no rain for 4-5 days and 47% humidity with 10 mph wind. Frustrating

Do you have any thoughts on managing for mineral stumps in more mesophytic sites where you’re fighting maples in favor of recruiting red oaks into the overstory?
@GrowingDeerTV9 ай бұрын
I like mineral stumps - but not so many the deer don't control them and the areas becomes a sprout jungle.

One thing I'd like to know is that I have got some new property, and the trees are real thick and the leaf litter and pine needles are thick, it needs to be thinned and burned. but I was wondering should I burn before I thin the timber or should I thin the Timber and then do a prescribed burn? Also if I thin the Timber and then burn should I just burn the logs that are left on the ground from the thinning or should I move them before I burn the property?
@GrowingDeerTV9 ай бұрын
The order isn’t as important as doing both tasks - thinning and burning. If there’s a full canopy of leaves, a low intensity fire likely won’t carry. A prescribed fire likely won’t consume logs -but the will slowly decompose and release nutrients. If placed in a pile, the nutrients won’t be equally dispersed across the site.

@@GrowingDeerTV when you say full canopy of leaves, are you saying that if the trees are really thick the Fire won't burn very well?
@cooterbrown17039 ай бұрын
So what did the weather man get wrong? Was it the humidity too high for a good burn or why didn't it burn good?
@GrowingDeerTV9 ай бұрын
Way more cloud cover than forecast. Cloud cover significantly refused the ability of fire to spread or carry.

I hunt public land in Ohio . It has an old clear cut on it . Grown up bad with saplings very thick . I believe deer use it when the saplings have leaves on it, during September and October. Do you think old clear cuts that are very thick with over grown saplings are good areas to target whitetail deer in ?
@wadesoutdoors19149 ай бұрын
@@grantwoods9984in that specific area it’s mature hard woods with thick canopy .

Wade - there are many variables but that area may be the best security cover in the neighborhood.
