Germinating first, then planting, gives you a better chance of assuring you'll have the number of plants desired. Hence far less if any reseeding. 👍 We are in Maine, the ground freezes, and yet a friend of mine always planted his peas every Fall, just ahead of a hard freeze, and simple mulching of leaves. His were up and done by first of June. Traditional garden planting here is Memorial Day weekend. We planted peas April 25th this year. Could have started them earlier as the soil temps were high enough. Above 40 degrees. Our last pick was 1st week July and were pulled just as the Japanese Beatles moved in. A win for us! Nice video my Friend, TYFS

Hey Mark. I absolutely love snap peas. I found these seeds at Sprouts grocery store last week. Botanical Interest are sold out but I bought 2 packs. Will be saving seeds. I also found some red okra. Do you not use kitchen scans to make your compost. I would really like to know. And if not please explain
@growingoutthebox10 ай бұрын
Hey Felicia and thanks for the question. I'm going to assume the you meant kitchen scraps. That's a yes and no depending if I have veggie scraps on hand. I don't cold compost which is what the tumblers or trash cans are when composting. I do thermal composting because it heats the pile up to 130 to 160 degrees killing any potential pathogen, weeds as well as seeds. I only make my compost pile once and don't add anything else to it. My nitrogen/greens would be grass clippings, coffee grounds, alfalfa pellets and kitchen scraps if they are on hand. My Carbon/Browns would be different tree leaves, sawdust, shredded cardboard, dried grass clippings. Collect a handful of soil from underneath several trees for diversity of fungi and bacteria. Trace elements would be in just a handful of plants like yarrow, dandelion. My excelerator would be 1 cup of URINE for ever 2 gallons of water. "Yes URINE" Urea.... I turn it for the 1st time after the first 4 days and checking that temperatures have reached at least 130 degrees. Again, thermal composting kills any pathogens. Ideally, I would then turn the pile everyday for the next 14 days skimming the outer layer of the pile and flipping it to the center of the pile being turned to keeping a check on moisture. So a total of 18 days you have usable compost but I allow it to set until spring when the biology of the pile become more active as temperatures start to warm up. I have all the parts to start a new pile so your message is right on time because I gives me a chance to note my talking points in the video. This is actually how I come up with my content. I was thinking about doing something like shoutouts in the future when I use the replies to create content. What do you think about that? @feliciathomas281
@feliciathomas28110 ай бұрын
That is great. Thank you for responding. Although not sure on the urine. 😮
@growingoutthebox10 ай бұрын
LOL.... I figured. We put cow poop, rabbit poop and chicken poop in our gardens without a 2nd thought. Almost all the organic fertilizer have urea in them which is farm animal urine but we have a stigma about using human urine. That's the difference in my compost. My Fall garden has only had alfalfa pellets "which I will be growing next year" and my compost. I also have a microscope to support my process. @@feliciathomas281
