Fun fact: Some of the temples on the shore of Mahabalipuram were swallowed up by a tsunami/tropical storm in the 13th Century, which buried a lot of structures under a thick layer of silt. No one realized that these temples existed till the tsunami of 2004 de-silted the shoreline and uncovered these temples. Further archaeological surveys have shown that the tsunami/tropical storm of 13th century had buried the coastline of Mahabalipuram by around 1 km under the ocean, most of the temples built on the shore were buried as well.

The temples and large statues are built by sculpturing mountains itself. Usually sculptured stones are joint to build temples. Imagine how hard it is to carve the whole mountain into temple.

Mahabalipuram is built by Mahindra pallavan and Narasimha pallavan kings from Pallava dynasty in 6 th century. These are Rock cut temples. They are carved out of existing rock so they were able to stand all those years.

Mostly India is a class society... the lower middle class and lower take the public transports like busses and local trains. The middle class and upper middle class usually have their own vehicles and even cars, they will take better transport. The rickshaws are not cheap... sometimes as much as paying for an Ola or Uber. And yes Indians do not go to tourist spots often. But Mahabalipuram is amazing with all it's history including the Chinese traders carved in stabbing ahem ahem... it was a warning for Modi!

White Pomfret is a costly fish in india these days. They cost over ₹2000 / kg. But then that did not seem like white pomfret, but the fake grey one (unless that was really a BIG white pomfret (which would be at least ₹3000 per kg in online apps. But it is cheaper in south india, ... so maybe it was not over priced.
