I'm thinking of making a simple "mini indoor greenhouse" with just simple LEDs with warmer colour :)

Hi! Philly burbs/DE native. This was very helpful! I have one of those blue/red 3 strip LED monstrosities from amazon - it does ok, but its ugly as all heck. I just got a few warm full spectrum 15W Sansi bulbs to put in the living room lamps (naturally a bright space with south facing windows) but I was wanting to supplement in the darker months since my plants are pretty far from that window. Trying to figure out lighting for the tops of some bookcases in my room that get like no light. Keep up the great content!!
@RootingMindfully4 жыл бұрын
@@MsMottz oh cool hello neighbor 🙂🙂🙂 yeah I cannot handle those blue, red or purple lights. I had them for a while and it just didn’t not work for me lol do you like the sansi lights? Maybe you could get some strip lights but in the warmer tone for you bookcase unless you can fit a smaller fixture or something up there.
@MsMottz4 жыл бұрын
@@RootingMindfully Yup - thanks so much for spotlighting some Philly shops that don't come up on yelp! I have new spots to check out! So far so good w/the Sansi, I like that they don't get hot and the light they give off is natural looking. One is focused on a Ficus Benjamina, a Brasil, a Fittonia, and a curly spider on a plant stand and everyone is holding their own w/new growth. The Benjamina is dropping leaves but I think that's just what they do ::fingers crossed::

Of course. I love sharing new places 🙂🙂🙂 yes that is why I love those Sansi lights. Yeah that ficus is pretty picky. Maybe it will stabilize after a while.

Lighting is definitely key to the plants. I had to purchase a lot of different lighting for my plants. Considering that I did a lot of shelving, I needed the lights to be there to assist the plants. I updated to the white lights in my home vs the red/blue spectrum. I didn't like the fact that I couldn't tell what color the plants were (light green, dark green, variegated, etc). The SANSII light is so good. It is helping my plants a lot. I want to get some more of them. Only thing is I only can afford the round lights and I need the long rectangle lights. I have to say that your lamps with the triple lights looks really good. Your plants look like they are really enjoying that light. Great job! I have a timer for most of my lights and it really helps when we travel (prior to COVID). Thanks for the content, very helpful!
@RootingMindfully4 жыл бұрын
Yesss having enough lighting can make or break your collection. And I also started out with the purple lights, but my neighbors thought that I was growing "professional" plants lol and it just did not like how it looked outside of my window. Plus like you said you cannot see what your plants look like or if something is wrong with the leaves. Yes I want one of those tracking lighting and they are more pricey. Plus I do not want to put any more holes in my walls that I will have to patch up later lol

@@RootingMindfully OMG... I had that questioned asked to me about the lights I had. I don't do drugs so I didn't understand the question when I was asked. I am thinking this is the lighting for plants, not thinking or knowing that weed was in their minds. I too didn't like the way it looked from my window. I live high up in my bldg and I would know what window was mine b/c of the purple lighting. That had to go.

Hi, Karen from West coast of Florida here. This was the most helpful grow light info video I’ve seen. I am in an apt with only a west facing and a south facing window. Still trying to figure out where to put my 30 plants. The west one has a sheer curtain to help tone down the direct sun but may still be too much for some plants. The south one has two huge trees outside and a building so not much sky shows. I’ll figure it out eventually. Anyway, thanks so much for your video!

LED's for sure. (Few more pieces of advice. Pay attention to the CRI (Color rendering index) rating. The higher, the better....higher cri means you're closer to the light the sun produces. It also looks a lot better. Flood lights are also great for interious because you can mount them higher. The Feit Electric® 90W Equivalent PAR38 Bright White Dimmable LED Light Bulb.....is my personal favorite. At $5 a piece, it's the best value for money you can find. Lumens are a decent way to judge light intensity if you're using high cri LED's. PAR is what really matters, but like you said....you're not trying to get too technical. 5000k for vegging plants, 2700-3000 if they're blooming. Last piece of advice....I'm guessing you probably have some sort of lighting you use when you make your videos? Eitherway, I would suggest a 4000k model with a high CRI rating. Might cost a little more, but it's worth it. One thing you may not have known is that the warm (600 to 750nm) light in the spectrum helps bring out the warmer undertones in different shades of brown. Put simply, folks of color get cheated out of looking their best by some low CRI bad LED lighting. (Not saying ANYTHING negative about your appearance....just trying to give some useful advice.) I'm a nerd, not an asshole.

Ohh cool. I want to visit Eureka. Ohh really? They can be so helpful, I definitely wouldn't have as many plants without them.

Make sure to check the actual power output/power draw or what the light actually consumes check in the product description cause most companies can be misleading I had to learn the hard way I thought I was getting a 1000watt light turns out it was only 120 watts

i know this is a late comment but im in Baltimore. i got a moisture monitor that also tells you what kind of light you are giving your plants and one of my grow lights is essentially USELESS unless its like an inch from the plant. I've had it further away b/c i was worried about it burning my leaves but so much for that! i need to replace that one so was looking for a GOOD option and not just a grow light on Amazon with paid reviews

Yeah the ones that measure light are a gimmick. I just use it so I don't overwater. Which light did you decide on?

I currently have a few GE grow lights and some I got from Amazon but im looking into sansi and haus bright. I just wish they weren't so expensive

Thanks, this was very helpful. I want to buy the sansi 24W or 36W for my lemon trees up here in Canada. I have two and the 5 year old one is suffering. I just got the second tree, a variegated pink lemon tree, and I want to give it extra sunlight this winter.

Oh ok. That is very cool. I would recommend getting the 36W for those plants.

I would like to know what kind of lamp you have for the sansi bulb (: it seems to hold that heavy bulb very well
