On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

You hear about how pilots can sometimes get confused which way is up or down when they look out the cockpit and I always understood to some degree how that can be if your equipment is malfunctioning, but seeing 1:36 - 1:45 reallyyy gave me a much better idea or just how confusing it can be. For the sake of accomplishing the mission (intercepting the Tu-22) I would have first sent one or two Meteors to the bomber, as soon as there was a chance. The longer one tangles with the escort the higher is the chance of getting shot down while the bomber flies happily along towards it's target.

Odd idea, that you could intercept a TU-22M like that. They will either be ciring cruise missiles (with 5+ times the range of a meteor) and to be able to intercept them, you would have to fly deep into Russian anti air zone, since the will not leave that area, not even get close to the borders. Or IF they would fly a bombing mission, they would monitor the sky and air fields and for sure not wait until you are in firing range.

⁠@@djokicadjokic6375The R-37M is dangerous because of its range and speed, but it’s easy to evade if the target is aware. It was designed to shoot down AWACS rather than fighters. The Meteor is much more manoeuvrable, and its motor provides thrust all the way to the target, so it doesn’t lose energy in the same way. I’d expect the seeker to be more sophisticated too (just given that it’s a newer design) but there’s clearly no publicly available information to back that up.

Surprised here- the answer for the Flankers AND the Felon would have been to throw R-37 Hypersonic missiles your way, at least a couple, in response to your Meteors hitting them and them realizing that they'd being engaged at extreme range - it's not like the Russians don't have similarly ranged missiles. ...Without that, yeah, it'd be up to the Felons to sneak up on you, maybe doing that infrared IRST low altitude mountain sneak attack stuff with volleys of R 77s waiting- but the Hypersonics should have made an appearance!

I notice in DCS that Meteor missiles (or "Meteour missiles", they are European after all :D ) have a far easier time locking on to the Su-57s than AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles do. I've seen so many of these playthroughs where AMRAAMs just lose lock, can't lock, can't hit their plate with a fork and can't find their way to the bathroom when trying to hit an Su-57. But Meteor missiles usually lock on easily and rarely miss. Not sure what's up with that but honestly I'd want whatever I'm flying in DCS to be able to equip and use Meteors over AMRAAMs. The standoff capability plus the apparent ease of taking out Su-57s make it the go-to missile for anything. Anyone do a scenario where NATO takes on Chinese aircraft using Meteor missiles yet? I know that scenario isn't as likely but it would be interesting to see.

It's partly to do with the European strategy that missiles would become more important than the aircraft carrying them... so they invested proportionally more into missile development and now don't have a fifth or sixth generation fighter because it perhaps wasn't so far sighted after all.

Aviation language is English. German fighter pilots, like every other, are trained in English, so this doesn't matter. In fact in reality, the Typhoon Audio Management System in every operating nation uses the same female voice with a subtle British accent.

Cost of explosives is very minor compared to everything else in the missile so there is not much sense to remove it. There are decoy decoy cruise and balistic missiles but it's whole other topic
