Those .50 projectiles require more lead than you originally thought, especially at a distance. They lose energy much quicker than 20 mm, and do less damage. You probably hit him many more times than you thought, just nothing to show for it. Longshot seemed content with mostly boom + zoom tactics at altitude, but that doesn't work close to the deck. Good fight!

The South African Airforce used the Canadair sabre 6, Mirage F1, mirage 3 and Aermacchi MB 326k Impala Mk2. The Sabre and Impala would eat the Mirage's lunch in a turning fight, but got destroyed once the Mirages started to fight in the vertical.

And please keep in mind people, a Canadair Sabre Mk.6 has a better T/W ratio *and* wings suited much better for a rate fight than the F-86-F GS is piloting here. Don't count out these older designs. When the battlefield is so flooded with ECM and magnetic interference like it promises to be in the future, a lot of the Semi-Active and Active RADAR guided missiles will, upon firing, act like a confused US President in an underwear store. ^^

A buddy of mine told me a story about a former friend of his that used to fly as a civilian an F-86 towing targets for military gunnery training. Apparently when they were done with it and they cut the target loose if there was time and fuel left they would dogfight sometimes. He had a pretty decent record against the more modern jets. Not sure what branch, I’d assume USAF though. Pilot skill counts for a great deal.

Wing loading is definitely on the Sabre's side. If a Tiger pilot can maintain bead on the Sabre, then it can use it's energy advantages (higher T/W) to keep any Sabre at bay.

I still say that the f86 is one of the most under rated jets in DCS. It was one of the biggest suprises for me in dcs to date. It might be my #2, lol. Right behind my tomcat. I would love to see them develop more content for the f86. The hunters over the yalu were great bit there is just so much history in this aircraft

You’ve got the Museum Relic Campaign. It works with the MiG-15 or the F-86. It’s nice (not tried in the 86, but finished it with the 15).

The only reason his plane can turn at slow speeds are the autoflaps. Remember this: the F86 will stall at about 40 kts lower than him with a bit of flaps out (not too much as the engine can't handle the drag)

Loved the video. Wanted to comment on the second dogfight when you mentioned the .50 cal. I currently maintain the T-38 Talon for the Air Force and it’s the trainer version of the tiger. Very little difference in everything. But I will say that .50cal will wreck that plane with ease.

50 cals seem to not do much in DCS..... even in the p-51 . the german 20s fuck ya up quick..... but ya really got to hammer on the right place with 50s to do anything then other times....1 single 50 will just explode the other plane...

Would be interesting. The 14 and 15 are so sluggish at low altitudes. They would have a big advantage using the vertical but if they get pulled into a low altitude rate fight then the sabre can probably sit inside their turn circle all day and force an overshoot.

Yep. But the Sabre had 6 of those .50s. Only two on the Tiger. I've seen first hand what .50 API and APIT (what those guns would have been loaded with) is capable of. Honestly, the twin 20s are just more efficient space-wise. I wouldn't bet on them being actually more effective by much if any.

I hope no pilot has to go through that. Being killed in the cockpit without a chance to even eject. That is against the rulings of the King of all fighter pilots, The Red Baron. Having said that there was one occasion when a Pakistani pilot managed to land a straight line shot against a flight of four hunters veering off to the same direction. Those lucky shorts all landed in cockpit That means none of the pilots even could eject even though some of their planes were still flight worthy as the damage wasn't too much. Unlucky shots.

T.16000M is universally understood as a great budget choice, but you can punish your wallet as much as you wish with more expensive options that suit your taste better (I've got a Warthog and love it, though I'm looking at a F/A18 grip and a Winwing F/A18 setup too...) I'd choose something with non-contact axis sensors in any case (Hall sensors, or what they sometimes call "magnetic" sensors), so that you don't get drift a couple months into extensive usage. I'm not exactly sure if the twist action on T.16000M has Hall sensors, but I'll leave that research up to the reader. Edit: for cheaper options with pots, just to dip your feet a bit, used x52 or x56 pro weren't bad for the price, but they feel too light and plastic for my taste. I imagine they do the job for a lot of flyers out there, though.

Watching these f86 videos really remind me of one of the best shows that the history Channel has done. Anyone else remember the show "dogfights"? Season one had 4 or 5 episodes dedicated solely to the great f86 and their air war vs the mig 15s. Great stuff. Wish they still made historical shows on the history Channel. I am sick of antique bull shit and garbage fake reality TV shows. Perhaps Growling can check some of those old shows out and use em for content? One can only hope
