A CWIS costs $3.5K per second to fire. I would assume CRAM is similar. If the cost of a cruise missile is $1mil, the break-even point would come at around 285 seconds of CRAM fire. (This excludes the wear and tear on the CRAM itself; the barrel is gonna melt at some point...) Of course, this is all dwarfed by the planes on the runway that the cruise missile is targeting...

Some explosives are so stable they won't detonate no matter how many times they are hit. At close in range missiles can still cause damage by "suiciding" if terminal guidance is lost or when the system thinks it may not make it to the target but is "over" the enemy. This is done when internal control signals are lost - not by active command. Such a detonation may not hurt hardened targets but squashy meat based assets are more susceptible to bits of flying metal.

Avoiding the cruise missiles launch are the priority there at first shot Excellent video as usual 👍🏼

The F-15C could structurally carry 12 missiles. We never did because there were some aero and airframe stress issues with the outboard pylons, and we never had a solid use case for the configuration. I think airspace sanitization of cruise missiles is a good use case for missile truck configs, but again, we've never been defensive like this because historically we've achieved air superiority within a few days. The EX model can carry 22 with the new missile racks.

I mean... it makes sense to call it at least a 75% success, because we had to account for the wingman getting shot down, and the damage you did to the Tu-95s and the Flankers, and what the Tu-95 did to your base.

If they return this afternoon for a second time around your airbase will be in so much trouble man... good that the turn around time for Tu95 is a bit long...

I think Uncle Sam would have wanted you to fire your AMRAAMS at the cruise missiles if you were too late to take out the bombers before they launched. 2 F-15’s carrying 8 missiles each can take out a good number of Cruise missiles leaving easier effort for the ground based defense. That or push it up next time and get there faster to take out the bombers…

Most cruise missile's fly under 1000 ft. Wouldn't a curtain of good old fashioned barrage balloons stymie them very cheaply? We used them as op's in Iraq the guy said the balloons were pretty cheap it was the servaylint system that made the expense.
