In the runaway scenario, my biggest concern was the Mig-31 instead of the Felons, because it was designed for the high-speed intercept (actually, the Russians designed it against the SR-71 if I know this correctly).
@NathanIrizarry1 Жыл бұрын
The mig-25 was specifically designed to intercept the sr-71. The mig-31 is an evolution of the mig-25. So depends on how you look at it you could say the mig-31 was designed for that.

the thing about the F-22 is if there are multiple baddies. It needs to use TWS, which means it would have to get in even more closer. By then you are already emitting. I guess it's benefit is getting the first shot off which by then it would bleed speed from needing to climb from those mountains
@clairecelestin8437 Жыл бұрын
I loved this. This is exactly the mission I imagine for a classic F-22 sortie. Stealth, multi-target launches in TWS, supercruise egress... What other airframe could execute this flight plan?
@spidlenexor Жыл бұрын
f 15 and f 35, with obvious adjustments to the strategy of the mission of course, the f15 would probably have a wingman and they would probably shoot everything down by fire volume, the f35 would probably have a wingman too but it would be more selective with its targets, probably would only engage the felons at most

These are questions from the US Army infantry officer from 50 years (& thus much less knowledgable than most commenters). 1/ Was the terrain you were flying over supposed to be in the Carpathian Mountains? 2/ Would it be commonplace for one USAF plane to be given a mission such as this -- not 2 or 3 planes? I spent 15 mos in SE Asia in the late 1960s as an Army lieutenant and either participated in, or ordered, multiple reconnaissance missions, but none of them were for just for one soldier. Most required anywhere from 2 to 4 soldiers -- plus a Hmong guide for some of them when they were many kilometers away from our position. 3/ I've been told that an F-35 is more stealthy than an F-22. If that's true, why wouldn't an F-35 be used? Or, does the F-22 have features or characteristics that make it better suited for such a mission as this one? Thanks, in advance, for your response!

@@Mike_RomeoI was simply going off what GS had said about his altitude, that he was above 63,000ft and was still climbing for awhile. I did look it up and the g-suit in the F-22 is designed to allow for hitting/passing the Armstrong limit. Most fighters cannot do that for multiple reasons.
