This video is about SCENIC SIKKIM ROADTRIP from DARJEELING TO PELLING and hitchhiking in India as a FEMALE SOLO TRAVEL. This Sikkim road trip vlog I hitchhike part of the way into Sikkim and I drive through the most beautiful and Scenic Sikkim road. My journey from Darjeeling to Pelling was an entire day.
Getting to Sikkim might have been easier from Gangtok (already in Sikkim) but from Darjeeling, getting to Pelling required a permit and then a checkpoint border transfer. Pelling had better be worth it!

My journey from #Darjeeling to #Pelling (West Sikkim) was an epic day. It's not the duration, but the amount of transportation I used to get to a more remote part of India. It was my longest travel day in India …and ever. As a female traveler, I used to be reluctant to travel anywhere that felt remote or required more than one transfer. This was definite progress for me. P.S. Is #SIKKIM safe? I'm working on an info post on my blog (www.grrrltraveler.com) for this and Darjeeling. The most important thing you need know is many locals have told me traveling in #Sikkim as a single woman is SAFE. It's the first time I've ever been given confident reassurance about an entire region in India. The locals didn't even give me tips about how to be safe.. just - no need to worry, it's safe, it's safe. Sikkimese people.. safe. That says a lot. pps. Pelling was actually a recommendation to me by the Tibetan owner of the Darjeeling hotel I was staying in. After arriving he called me to check in on me to see I'd safely arrived. That says even more.

Dear Sister, Sikkim is 1 of the safest state in India with very low crime rates still i advice u to b cautious as u r in another country and u can't understand our language .Ples try to find a good hotel there and if u face any difficulty dial 100 to call police nearby. May god bless u .

I'm sitting here with my jaw still wide open watching you traveling all freaking day, even hopping a school bus, to get to a town where you hadn't even reserved accommodations! I'm also thinking Pelling better be worth it!!!!! Thank you so much for doing these videos. I love watching you navigate roads off the beaten path like this.

Great video. oh wow I did this exact same trip a few years ago (except not with a bus full of bollywood school kids). your video brought back a lot of memories! Although it looks a lot more developed in 3 years. I remember we got off the jeep in Pelling and walking into the closest hotel because I didn't want to go any further. Which was actually pretty nice. Probably my favourite part of India.

While going to pelling from darjeeling you choose the wrong way instead you should have taken a shared jeep to Jorethang from Darjeeling motorstand and have asked the driver to take you via singamari (Ropeway) it would have taken you only one and a half hour to reach jorethang from Darjeeling.

Hi Christine, Planning my trip to India, I'm flying into Delhi and I have only 21 days in India total. Would you suggest Leh/Ladakh or Darjeeling/Sikkim? I've read and watch your videos on both regions. how many days would you suggest for those places? Darjeeling/Sikkim looks amazing, sort of reminds of Nepal. But I also want to fit in Varanasi, Agra/Taj Mahal, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, then finally flying out of Delhi Right now I'm thinking of 8 days Max for Leh/Ladakh or Darjeeling/Sikkim, both places I can access easily by flying the same day upon arrival in Delhi. 8 days should give me time to visit the above mentioned places. But as I watch your videos on Sikkim/Darjeeling, it just seems like a great place to go slow and take it easy. Did you do any trekking in Darjeeling/Sikkim?

Coming off as pretty ignorant but maybe shared taxi seems to be a thing in the east. And you do seem pretty safe and cool with that I assume considering you were the only woman there among 7-8 men. I hope this doesn't encourage you to use shared cabs elsewhere though, especially in the North.
@grrrltraveler
@grrrltraveler 7 жыл бұрын
+Surag B S I researched in advance. In Darjeeling/Sikkim is very mountainous ; you won't find buses as the roads are too steep and narrow. Shared jeeps are the only option Ive seen locals take. The "bus station" is a jeep station. It's the only area in India I've known to use this method. So the cultural lifestyle is different. Sikkim/Sikkimese I"ve been told is safe for women to travel... I asked that question in many different ways, as I was reluctant to undertake that journey alone. I'm also familiar with Buddhist leanings and communities so that helps. This was an exception. In the north elsewhere, I've used other transportations.

+sandeep chandel Indian trolls- please do your life a favor of clear karma and move on. A lot of Indians really misinterpret that video in an ignorant and GIANT way. I list 'common stereotypes that western travelers have about India' that make them not want to come. I have also experienced this, but I rebuttal it with my experience and what I love about . It's directed to western travelers. But many ignorants only want to pick out the negative shaming and respond in filthy ways. I get my share of negative comments from other countries who don't like what I say, but that India video takes the top seat in the most prejudiced, ugly and nasty language and crazy rationale. Do yourself a huge favor -- do not watch any of my videos. This channel is about all of my travels, not just India. And its certainly not for evil spirits who misinterpret my love for India.
