I thought you were toast too... You definitely needed destroyers to nom nom his water elementals and inner fire. But just the constant little losses (picking off a priest here, picking off a rifleman there) essentially drained him down until you were able to go for back to back hero kills + wombo combo with impale + nova to just AoE'ing the rifleman. Wow. Just wow. He should have won. But you played with "reckless abandon" from your bad start and it ended up working out! Definitely one of my favorite UD games from you!

Marcus Aurelius is reknown today for being one of the best emperors, one of the 5 good emperors of Rome, aswell as for being one of the key figures in stoic philosophy. Against rifle caster all you need is a bit of tanking. To make rifle caster effective you need tanking with knights. He gave up on your coil nova impale. He should’ve made a few breakers and knights. Grubby should’ve made a destroyer to eat up WE and priest buffs.

@followgrubby would be interested to hear your commentary on the choice to stick with abom/statue over turning one of your statutes into destroyer to consume inner fire and elementals. I can see your logic in that priests would just replenish inner fire and had infinite mana from brilliance. You won this game though attrition and abusing the power of statues, really well done. Also, dark ritual mvp to deny XP

You could have won much earlier by just getting 1 DESTROYER? :D he could suck all that inner fire, and you micro him back, only using him for that matter. You even had 3 statues at one point. Great micro at the end ofc tho.

The HU opponent was out of OOM during that final battle. But how was that possible? His Archmage was level 5 and should have had level 2 Brilliance Aura. Even with the Lich's Dark Ritual, I can't imagine how Grubby could out-mana a HU opponent.

Can someone tell me how the winner is decided? Is it first to so many points? Is there a time limit? (I understand how Units/Heroes/Resources are scored; I just don't understand what triggers the game to end and a winner to be decided)

When a player believes that they have lost the game, they will say "gg" and leave, causing the other player to win automatically. Victory is triggered by destroying all of the enemy's buildings, but since it's easy to see who will win by a certain point games rarely ever get to that stage. In this case the opponent just lost his heroes (and consequently the fight), determined that their chance of winning is too low, and decided to quit the game.

If a player realized that they were losing too many advantages and there's no way they could recover, they will call out "GG" to surrender and quit the game.

If no player voluntarily left the game, any player who lost all their buildings first will be considered as Lost.

kill more units or kill a hero and don't lose one; have more gold...this game was basically lost by grubby but high lvl undead heroes are very good against small units like rifle + caster or for nuking heroes (you also need insane micro like grubby)

The main win condition is to destroy every enemy building. However, with most high level games, when something major happens (eg losing a major hero / all of your heroes / bulk of your army) you can pretty much tell how the rest will play out. In this case, since Grubby just took out 2 of 3 of the enemy heroes, and widdeled down his army. HU knew he could not get both heroes back in time + rebuild before Grubby is knocking on his door with reinforcements and higher level heroes. Sure, he could drag it out and force Grubby to destroy all the buildings, but, that's usually saved for BM (Bad Manners) or FFA (Free For All). But what was surprising, is the stream + Grubby believed HU still had a chance... So the fact that Grubby won the mental war with a lopsided comeback made this victory very surprising! Hope that helps!

I don't think you shouldn't have cancelled the 2nd slaughter house. 4 banshees vs 1 gryph at a time. No destroyer vs inner fire. Still a great play.

Not to fight, just 1-2 for inner fire/water and you micro it back. Basnhees are even more fragile and worthiless if he doesn't commit to gryphons, but has strong land army @@TheFringless

@@TheFringless just suck the inner fire and retreat the destroyer instantly? You can even heal him while he does that with a coil. It was the correct play that Grubby didn't do so he had to comeback hard with micro. He shouldn't won against all that inner fire without disabling it.

No he actually completely lost control of the game the minute he went into Grubbys base (23:00). Then lost both heroes with most likely no gold to restock them + army, was about to lose the rest of his army for change and map control aswell which is death against UD. Not sure about expo situation. He would have lost it in the counter-attack though. To be honest I often see in these replays how the longer the fight goes, the more mistakes of the opponents happen. The hit&run-baiting seems to have completely overwhelmed the HU player, microing his army, re-supplying AND keeping track of his expo. It was completely unnecessary to go into UD base with the kind of army he had. He could have denied Grubbys expo for at least 3 more minutes back then while protecting his own with reinforcements like he did when he sent the gryphon. EDIT: If he saw the haunted goldmine being built, he may have tried to deny it in a "last hope" effort. But I dont think he did.

TBH while an awesome game the comeback kinda points a balance issue imo. He has a great start and it's not clear what he could have done better to win this, save maybe for a tower in his B2.

u keep moving your whole army back n forth while taking heavy fire...and not doing damage. i thouht u had good micro?.. and u cant nuke and run when enemy has priests to heal the dmg u gotta use consistent dmg.. u werent picking off any units its like u werent focusing on the same unit each time... u gota find some good control groups for each type of unit so when u move one u can make the others stay and atk smh.. i knw u know this but man this game looked bad. looked like u were trying to draw them into ur base/blight... but lost a lot in the process and i think you'll be better if u use deathpact/ frost pact w/e it is more for more novas.... and even cannibalize mid battle with magic shell.. and buy some circlets for your lich... for mana cap and power, AND.. u bought claws for a DK, when i think DK is a tough hero so i wuld've gotten ring of defense early and taken the claw later
