It takes two factors. Genetic predisposition and environment. I heard it said best as: Genetics load the gun, but the environment fires it". Some people are born with less empathy but a caring environment keeps those impulses in check. People born without psycopathic tendencies or other mental problems will naturally be more resistant to environmental influence. But genetics and environment together will create the perfect storm.

There was an excellent point briefly mentioned about the dismissal of teen boys who are missing that results in not checking for sex crimes and assuming other deviant behavior which helps people get away with crimes against them. It needs to be standard to check all missing person(s) from run away to prostitutes (might be harder to keep track of) They can create a new section in the police department which handles minor missing cases, run away kids, to serious cases. At least it would help building up the evidence and clues which could prove to be crucial rather than say that person will come back/ or we can’t act unless a body is found
@MrDeelightful

@@whitedragoness23 As much as I agree with you, a division like that would be constantly underfunded and overwhelmed. I'm not sure of the numbers but police probably get way too many missing cases to fully investigate each one with any kind of speed. I guess that work could be contracted out to another agency that specifically handles missing persons? As for the OP in this thread, I definitely agree on that. It seems really strange how many kids go missing and aside from a small local effort, not enough resources are put into the case. Horrible stuff.

It's so annoying when in trail or investigating, if the methods of killing were different then they can't convict. It's absurd to think a serial killer would only kill the same way Everytime. A serial killer could kill differently every time and that should be obvious.

Well yes but it’s difficult to piece together that way like @moi moi said. Also, I believe that a serial killer usually has a “trademark” so to speak. This is obvious if you look at cases like Jack the Ripper (knife wounds, removal of organs, targeting prostitutes), James Fairweather (stabbing out the eyes), or Jeffery Dahmer (drugging victims, dissolving flesh with acid). It’s a psychological phenomenon which I can’t remember the name of but it’s how serial killers are tracked, usually. It gives the detectives a starting point which lets them find evidence, in theory of course.

I have a great ammount of empathy for the poor 14 year old schoolboy............At the age of 14 (with the stepmother from hell) I ran away from home I was very naive and was hitchiking from leeds to colechester to go to my auntie.At a place called haverhill I was given a lift by a gentleman in a morris minor.After a while in a small country lane he reached into the glovebox took out a penknife put it to my throat and told me to take my trousers down.........Well I had no comprehension of peadophiles, child murderers so I had no idea of what danger I was in.So I started to cry crockodile tears Then he got a little more aggressive and I started to cry for real..........He then said GET OUT so I opened the door and got out and asked for my rucksack.He got out and opened the boot and threw the rucksack at me and drove off.I wandered down the lane and saw a light at a junction there was a car showroom/garrage.I stood there for a while and a police car pulled up and asked me what I was doing .I said I was on my way to see my auntie.They took me to the police station and bought me fish and chips phoned my aunt who later collected me.What I have to say is I never told the police my aunt or my father ...I think it might have been his first time and I was bloody lucky. I am sure he might have tried again.Why did I not say anything? I felt ashamed and did not think that I would be believed.

The police interviewed the murderer in connection with each of the murders, but never made charges after doing so. Also, the pathologists overlooked some evidence on the - admittedly - charred bodies of the victims. This case reminds me a bit about Peter Sutcliffe‘s (the Yorkshire Ripper) who was also on the police‘s radar several times before he was caught and charged.

It changed the way children were allowed to play, Britain wasn't used to serial murders until that terrible episode. Most police are working class or close. They don't want children or any person murdered. The perpetrator should always do natural life to protect the public from them. I think different branches of the police now work together instead of being in competition.

Here’s the British narrator again, speaking as if delivering profound insight, yet states the obvious. They need to get rid of that guy. He never says anything revealing but we are supposed to be gripped by his British accent. At one point he said the boys probably met “playing football”, yet they had already stated the boy was not interested in things like football. He literally just makes shit up and he may as well say blah blah blah. It’s annoying as hell. Between the British guy, hip psychologist and dark haired lady, the only one who gives any small bit of insight, is the dark haired lady.

Steven Grieveson was described as a naturally talented footballer who played for local teams in his teenage years. I like the narrator too personally, so I guess it's just opinions. Its not about delivering profound insight, as much as relaying the events, which throughout the series are sickening, it's not an easy topic to narrate! I find his voice is smooth and somewhat, strangely calming, and he does a great job of describing respectfully, what has happened.

I´m sorry a young gay man didn´t have support in his formative years... but I´m not sorry a murderer got caught and was incarcerated for robbing other young men of their lives and their futures. There's so many of these stories... "realise they're gay at a young age and then become a murderer, because they had no support" - neither did I and I don´t have homicidal tendencies.
@moriyarose3587

Exactly. I'm not homosexual, but I'm sick of this pathetic excuse. His society didn't accept homosexuality, so he had to go he a murderer, apparently. I've heard similar nonsense about Gacy and Dahmer. It's stupid.
@ashraelzola4439
@ashraelzola4439 2 жыл бұрын
@@moriyarose3587 I am part of the LGBT+ community and I am so tired of this narrative. Yes, the world should be more open and supportive of LGBT+ youth, because when a lot of them don´t get support, they take their own lives or get stuck in places, where psychos will take their lives from them. But a person's sexuality has nothing to do with whether or not they committed crimes like this. Society did not push a man to murder, because he was gay.
@moriyarose3587
@moriyarose3587 2 жыл бұрын
@@ashraelzola4439 I fully agree. I hope my comment came through that way. I 100% agree - his sexuality had nothing to do with this. If it came off as rude, that wasn't my intention. Sometimes tone is hard to interpret online. If he had his family/community to support him, he still would have found another reason to murder those boys. His sexuality was a completely irrelevant factor. I almost feel like they included his sexuality to make the viewer feel bad for him. Like, "Yeah, he's a murderer, but he's gay, so it isn't that bad. At least a straight man didn't murder the boys." Nope. It is irrelevant and patronizing. I hear the same excuse used for Gacy and Dahmer - society didn't accept them being gay. Apparently, according to these "professionals," it's one of the reasons Gacy killed 30+ young men and buried them under his house, until he ran out of room. Then, he just dumped them in a river. If someone wants to discuss acceptance of the LGBTQ community, why it is an important issue, etc - fine. But it should not be in this context. It has nothing to do with this man ruthlessly murdering innocent boys.
