The funniest thing is that the one thing Arin did "wrong" in this game is play as Sonic the majority of the game. This "Sonic" game was made with the fundamental flaw that it does not stop you from walking off the stage. So when Arin uses Sonic - a fast character that accelerates like he just learned his ass is ablaze - he falls off the stage. As a kid (playing this game on the PS2 version mind you) I played with Knuckles like he was the only character. And I never had as many issues playing this ass of a game as Arin because, unlike him, I never believed in the lies of the Sonic the Suicidal Rat like a fat kid does in ice cream. This Sonic game is the one in which promises of speed are simply constructs of our imaginations further reinforced by a cool blue character. And the truth that Arin never realizes is that these promises are as frustratingly empty as Big the Cat's fishing rod: this Sonic game condemns you for playing its namesake.

Well, most of mastering the game is trusting where you will land. Don't get me wrong, Sonic does indeed have it's fair share of bullshit, but once you master rail riding (excluding switching rails without jumping), Rail Canyon and Bullet Station become a major breeze.

This could have been easily avoided if Arin bothered to land on the Floating Die before flying to the next platform. But because he didn't bother trying to play correctly, Knuckles and Sonic's models had to be placed on the platform, which pushed Tails forward. Arin could have moved in the other direction or jumped to correct himself, but he chose not to. I'm sure that's the game's fault, though.

I feel like many of the unfair deaths in this game could be avoided if the devs put up invisible walls, at least in some points. I know that it would feel unfair to just be guided by the path because you can't fall off the edge, but there are plenty other ways to die. For example, the enemies they programmed to try and kill you. This is something I've noticed with a lot of these 3D Sonic games. In the classic versions, you couldn't clip through stuff or fall off the edge unless that was the intention (ie, spikes or pit falls). Now, I am no expert on these games, by a long shot, but I am a programmer heading into game design and it always makes me a little sad to see this happen. If the devs were given more time and maybe more budget, these games could be enjoyed without the glitches and unfair deaths. In Sonic Boom, I can forgive the glitchiness at some parts because, well, Arin did try to skip portions of the game. At least they put up invisible walls on top of that big wall around the village. Could it have used more polishing and more of those walls? Yes, but the devs probably didn't expect you to be able to Knuckles jump your way into the heavens. However, I do feel like they would've had a more complete product with smoother gameplay if they were given more time. At least Knuckles jumping around parts of the level can serve as a last resort if you're struggling, I guess.

I saw someone else comment that the reason he struggled so much (specifically with falling off the edge) was because he played as Sonic a lot of the time. He was so used to playing as the blue blur, it's almost like he forgot there were other characters until he needed them. I'm not an expert on Sonic (never played an actual Sega game for whatever reason), but do you think that would also contribute to the problem? I ask because once I have money and my own place, I want to attempt playing the games I missed out on in my childhood, including Sonic.
