This was shared from our local Massey Ferguson dealer in New Zealand a while ago I thought you might like it for a laugh. While processing job cards this week the following job description was entered by one of our field technicians... "Travel to site, investigate fault. Plug EDT in and run Wintest. Active code 203 + 205 - open circuit to forward solenoid. Remove Auto 3 box cover and discover rats, nest and babies. Found had chewed 8 wires to Auto 3 plug. Remove and repair all damaged wires. Reassemble Auto 3 and guards. Test drive, all ok. Found mother rat running across yard, chase rat and kill it with stick, job done." JJ Ltd - going the extra mile since 1958 :)

First time I have watched this. Very interesting! I have come to the conclusion after 62 years of trying to beat the system on NEW or USED and fix. THERE IS NO FREE RIDE! Either payments and new and working. OR repairs and down time. One or the other. I have kept records for 44 years and it is just about even. So if you like your machine keep it. I like OLD, REBUILD IT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. OLDER THE BETTER. HAVE A 67 PICKUP. no computer. Just works! GREAT VIDEOS!

A few years ago a mate of mine was awoken at 3.30 in the morning in the middle of winter, when his harvester roared into life! He sneaked down to the shed armed with a baseball bat, shitting his pants all the way.. Yes you guessed, a rat managed to somehow hotwire the header.....

Every thing you said about pack rats is spot on. But in my battles with them I found one thing that can beat them. Deny them liquid water to drink. Fix your outdoor faucets, don't water cattle near the barn or house, nor dogs, chickens or anything else. Dry as a bone on a regular basis and they will just up and move away. Regular rats and mice also need regular liquid water to drink and they move on as well. Actually seems to work here.

Haha I never met a mechanic that was not grumpy at times. One solved his problems with a "tea break" . Remember him well, Arther Lindley, "sod it, lets have tea", the cat machine can wait lol I even got very grumpy once too, went down site with electrician who was going to sort a problem on the new D8 dozer that arrived, I went down to check what gear I needed to change engine oil & filters at break time, electrician working in cab chatting to driver, forgot I was under machine, it started up and moved forward, I scrambled forward fast onto back of blade, driver nearly had heart attack when he lifted blade and my head appeared above radiator, damn scary stuff omg. Always took keys out after that, when servicing machines. Intermittent faults are a pain, remember once when I was driving a Cat D5 dozer, worked fine, then it behaved like it was pushing a full load on the blade, when I did not even have blade down, when they came down to check, they found nothing, it worked ok. Turned out to be a crack in torque converter, the case filled with oil and put the machine under load, as scavenger pump could not keep up when transmission got hot, took a while to find, they had to get Cat dealers out to check & sort it out.

Another story for you. Friends just came back from a week in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. While there, they traveled on public buses. The buses looked dilapidated, but ran, and the drivers were friendly and helpful, even going out of the usual routes to deliver our friends to their various destinations. But the best part was one driver's strategy for trouble codes and alarms. Every few minutes, lights would start flashing on his dashboard, and then alarms would start chiming. Each time that happened, the driver calmly reached over to the ignition key and flipped it off and on again - codes cleared until next time. Worry Free Motoring, if you know how to do it! Funny how your service truck seems to have a recurring chime while you go down the road filming and dictating. Guess you hve found the knack. Keep up the good work.

We were paying 97.00 per hour for in shop rate 7 years ago. Mechanic was sorry and I ended up spending more on injector, head repairs etc than a total overhaul would have cost. Power stroke Diesel 7.3 Warren is worth 150.00 per hour had he worked on my power stroke, the bill would have been 2100 with parts instead of 4200.

My air conditioner quit on my house, a mouse had chewed some wiring on the outside unit. When the tech got done fixing it he put coffee grounds in around the wiring, said no mouse, rat, or other critter would bother it again. I know for a fact they can't stand peppermint extract, as well.

Fix vs replace is a constant issue. My pickup truck has 185,000 miles (gas V8) on it and I've rebuilt several major components. Engine is still original and in good shape. New pickups are way overpriced in my opinion, so the old Dodge will probably get repaired until there's nothing left to fix. I can understand that things are different on a commercial scale though.

Might want to do a price check on milstack + tractor vs stinger. Sure, stingers are not really a multi-use machine (until you get creative). The towable mil-stack is pretty much a single use implement as well although you can use the tractor for other jobs. There are pros and cons to each machine.

You can put $40,000 into a tractor for whatever reason and be ahead - instead of $350,000 for a new 1 or you can buy a used 1 with less hours and be ahead - that's why used tractors and implements are in demand
