The named these pedals grunge because they were released in the 90s and it was a huge trend . I bought the digitech 3 years ago because it's truly more of METAL pedal and it turns the crappiest practice amp into a Heavy Metal tank .

i just bought the Digitech Grunge( thats why i end up here watching this vid XD). Though i had many options in the store just now, but in the end I end up with this grunge which is cheaper than the other pedals (sounds damn good) very ermmm chunky i would say. Love it!

Long time grunge user, only distortion pedal i ever had as a kid, on fender amps. Best way to use it is to crank that loud as much as you dare, and dial down everything else. Crank mids on the amp. Rock on

Here's a comment I found on another vid: "Crack it open, find the capacitor labeled 'C19' and clip it. Just take it clean out. It opens up the mids and makes it sound so much less brittle." Is this the same/similar as you did?

It’s just the Digitech Grunge...I don’t think they have/had different versions of it. There were a few different DOD versions but I’m pretty sure only one Digitech branded version

My first-ever pedal was the DOD Grunge, in '96 or so. Someone along the way had told me it was what Kurt used, and as a naive and internet-less Nirvanamaniac, of course I had to have it. I hated that pedal, but my pride wouldn't let me admit it... at least, not for a few years. Haha, lovely days.

Cool same here, my first pedal too except I wasnt that surprised when I got it, I read it was a really good distortion pedal despite saying grunge it had tonnes of of gain to work with, which at the time was great for the metal I was playing, I actually thought it was the best metal pedal at the time without going full pro gear. If anything it had a little too much gain, although it wouldnt get muddy it would get hissy. I thought an EQ pedal was the way to go with it but never got around to trying that.

Same here. I found that if you turn the drive all the way down, the highs all the way down, it makes a great bass distortion pedal.

i think the dod's buffer is affected by the digitech since i hear the same results when you put the pedals in the opposite order. DOD sounds brighter and aggresive and digitech's sounds quieter.

The DOD one just sounds better, I find this is also true of the Death Metal as I've had the Digitech for a few years & recently got the DOD, it seems less compressed & smoother which is what I hear here.

having owned a DoD grunge for 15 plus years and really liking it unfortunately dropping something on it and breaking the loud knob off at the base which resulted in a capacitor leak internally killing my stomp box ....was having trouble finding a new/used one to replace it ....watched this video and concluded the digitech pedal would be a good replacement ....wrong ...maybe because i use gibson sg's with 490's 61 reissues and 57 classic's made a difference but after purchasing and plugging in i found this pedal's distortion harsh almost a tin can like fake distortion that resulted in ripping from my pedal board and surfing ebay to make offers on overpriced DOD grunge pedals till i found someone to except a reasonable price... i should have known having bought a few digitech pedals and all but the delay pedal are in storage and even that one is second choice on my pedalboard...save your money people digitech sucks

This pedal is supposed to mimick jcm800 high gain randall. There's an actual DOD 101 guitar sounds book which has this pedal in just every genre from rock to metal. Take time adjust the settings along the tuning string gauge on the guitar. You guys are just screwing around with it hince the name of your channel I've owned the dod grunge when it first came out funny thing way back it was retailed about $70 bucks. haha Well, had it for a short while. If you or anyone who has that Dod book you'd know what I'm talking about.

that's weird I have one I bought from a used instrument store that says FX69B. you don't seem to have that one here, the missing link between the two I suppose. The B one doesn't say butt and face and instead says High and Low.

I think they just turned into the "B" when it was rehoused into the newer enclosure - with the normal 9V input (the old ones used to have the headphone style input). Most likely made in China too...I think they only made very few "B" in the US...as far as I know other than that they are basically the same
