Carole King is such a stupendous GIANT in the early days of pop rock n roll. Just an icon of mammoth proportion. Carole King is still alive and needs to be recognized for the enormous contribution she made to music while she is still among us.

Yes, a great time for music. But I don’t want to go back. The Vietnam War, changing mores, the pill, mind expanding drugs, recession as the post WW2 boom started to slow down and domestic production started to move overseas, women’s empowerment just blossoming in a real way in the face of incredible misogyny. It was a very confusing, yet hopeful time which we got through, but I don’t want to relive it.

Writer came seven years or so after The Drifters recorded "Up on the Roof." Also, King rarely says anything about Sedaka, and others have said his claim that they "dated" may be more than it was. Either way, King has been a wonderful part of American popular music.

There was no mention of this. What happened was, her parents were the right stuff and made her that way. Her mother had played the piano and started teacher her at age four. But again her mother and father have the full credit for giving her a positive spirit. They encouraged her and made her indomitable. It's not well known that she wrote some of the songs for the TV show "The Monkees." There's a picture of her and her mother together when she was a teen. Her and her mother have the same exact expression. That was not planned. She's 82 year old and still performing to sell out audiences.

I love Carole King, but she lived in a cabin surrounded by mountains, they call them hollows, but she spoke against building near the rocky mountains which included the hollows. But I still love her music, most laws and regulations are not meant for those with the big money. I know she meant well.

I like Carol Kings music, but, I reaaaly wish musicians and athletes would stay out of politics. Unfortunately for them, they get such a big head they forget that a huge amount of their paying audience don't agree with their politics. Linda Ronstadt found out in Las Vegas when she started talking about her radical liberal views during a concert no less. It pissed everyone off so much that they ripped her concert billboards up and stormed out. These are singers and songwriters. They should stick to that and avoid pissing off half their fan base.

@@DavidDudley-yy2ui She started a political binge about supporting Michael Moore who was the biggest hypocrite in the world because he made millions of dollars from capitalism all the while, like her preaching socialism. She basically got booed off the stage and the casino said they would never ask her back. It's a mute point now because she's no longer here. I liked her music but she like too many musicians and entertainers all think they need to tell the world how it should turn. They only hurt themselves when they piss off half their audience.
@DavidDudley-yy2ui

@@libertyjustice2703 right i gotcha . I don't really have a problem with anyone stating their opinion but there is a time and place for it. and if someone does run the mouth, they gotta accept the consequence. Carol King should notice that many in her audience are not liberal, I saw Rick Derringer here in Hawaii the audience appreciated his show but he did his flagwaving bit, and Hawaiians ain't all that down with it. Nothing ugly but there was a quiet moment.

Thank you for the great information. She's a cool personality. I'm a little saddened that so many wonderful people are liberal, which in itself isn't bad, at all; but the way of the Left seems to pave the way quite nicely for those who want to usurp total control of everything and everybody. Unbridled freedom is abusive, but so is unaccountable control. I like having the freedom to strive toward personal freedom that respects the freedoms of others to experience their best existence. I'm grateful to Ms. King for brightening my world in her uniquely special way.
