Very well done your attention to detail in the build is commendable except you used the dial bore gauge on the connection rods & main bearing girdle caps to check clearance with out the bearings in them this is a crucial step missed as you used micrometer on the crank journals you should have set the dial bore gauge to this for bearing clearance apart from that well done .
@555vrx11 ай бұрын
He did check oil clearance with plastigage not precision measuring tools. He have used dial bore gauge to check bearing housing bores. But I agree, it's better to use precision tools to measure oil clearance and can verify/double check with plastigage if feel so.

Gentlemen, there is the perfect engine assembly video and I can prove it.
@galantvr4936 Жыл бұрын
If you look at Workshop manuals, the small timing belt shouldn´t be tight as shown in video (5-6mm sag when pushing with finger only), so a break of timing belt can occour (overtensioning). The same with the big timing belt, after installation,. engine crank should be rotated 2 times and after the gap on the hydraulic tensioner (lever to body) should be measured (approx. 3.5mm). I had 2 times snap (break) the small timing belt, because Mitsubishi repair shop did the tension on the small timing belt to high and after 20tkm the belt at cold temperature broke. 1st time I was lucky, nothing else happened, 2nd time timing on big belt got 2 teeth off (because broken small timing belt came between crank pully and big timing belt) and pistons hit the valves (without bending, but they had to be replaces for security reasons). Car and engine: Galant VR4 with original JDM Group N Rally engine. Some part of video I liked, but with some installation procedures I don´t agree, because they don´t follow instructions of the service manuals.

19:53 what if the movement is not in the tolerance range? and also the gap between the crankshaft and the block.
@gsbackyard Жыл бұрын
If the clearance is narrower than the specified value, seizing may occur. Basically, if the distortion of the block and crankshaft is within the allowable range, it will not seize immediately even if the gap is somewhat tight. By rotating, it wears moderately and approaches the proper value. In the case of a heavily used engine, "distortion" and "bending" occur in the crankshaft. If this is not corrected, the clearance will be tight and seizure will occur. The crankshaft in the video has been corrected for bending.
Dear gentleman! Outstanding job !!! Just remember me the old times when I'm did to assembly engines for racing or street cars !!! According your experience and clean labor only one deal you are master to do it! I would like to invite to performance an track day with this car at Interlagos tracking!!!! "Assembly paste". When assembling the engine, the vehicle manufacturer's maintenance manual instructs to apply engine oil. However, if it is engine oil, it will flow if the period is open until the engine starts. The assembly paste is more viscous than engine oil, so it is difficult to flow, and it prevents the oil film from running out until engine oil is supplied from the pump during cranking after overhaul. Ultimately, it is mixed with the oil and discharged when the oil is changed.
