Awesome , brings back a lot of memories. I was a crew chief near the end of the UH-1 career in the army. I deactivated two units. 237th med det out of Ft. Ord California and the 4-228 aviation out of Anchorage Alaska. Being a crew chief was the best time and experience i have ever had and I had some of the best pilots i have ever had the privilege to fly with. Thanks to everyone who shared their stories. We used to say that the black hawk might be faster, but nothing would inspire or instill fear into the enemy like the sound of a Huey rotor blade beating the air into submission.

A well done video of a fine machine and definite tribute to our brave men and women in Uniform. I was alive, as a small child, while the war in Vietnam was going on and I can remember Huey's, Flying Bananas and many other helicopters flying by our house in Anchorage - its funny because I can still remember playing with toy cars on the floor of our house with the TV on and seeing the "Jolly Green Giant" bean commercials with the "HO HO HO" at the end, somehow my mind associates the Huey with these commercials, it was all the same time era. ...Recently, the lady and I were travelling in Arizona and passed a truck and trailer on the Interstate which was hauling a Slick, it looked like a privately owned machine that could be made to fly. They're also much larger than I had ever realized. Love that sound!

An old 'Nam vet went riding out and took the scenic way Up on a crest he stopped to rest and watch the end of day. When from the coast the mighty ghosts of Hueys thundered by, Warriors in the ancient wind, like angels filled the sky. The door-guns still were glowing, the crew-chief's eyes were steel, The blades were black and shiny, and the prop-wash he could feel. A bolt of pride shot through him as they shook the rocky ground, He saw the pilots flaring hard, and he heard that whooping sound.

Awesome helicopter, I like the sound of the blade slap.

In real life the popping of the blades is the best part. That never seems to come out so well on audio recordings.

Good workout on the ole UH. Simple, reliable, able to take some serious battle damage. Me and Her, we're both fading into history. She took care of me. She got me home. Ohhhh, Yes.

Damn great video! Thank you! I remember hearing and watching a lot more Huey’s in my childhood; mid ‘70’s. I still know the sound when I hear one approaching and always take the time to gaze up. Listening to Karl Marlantes’; Matterhorn. Had to come here to get the full effect.

my father used to these. I love that sound and hear them coming from miles just from that "thump thump"

Drove these in Vietnam in 1969 and instructed in them for the next twenty years. It is a wonderful machine, but only gets one mile per gallon! (1mpg) LOL We learned to live with it. The Blackhawk gets ½mpg!! The A-10 uses 4 gallons/mile. War is expensive!
