I remember reading something about these gas struts from the Solstice Forums. From what I understand these struts are unobtanium lol. A few years ago I placed 2 double sided hook springs from that little bar that runs across to the mechanism above it. It still works to this day and it's nice for popping the trunk open at a stop light and throwing the top down without getting out of the car

They do seem to be out on back order quite frequently. I had to wait a few months myself. I looked into buying some springs as well, but after some careful consideration, I figured a gas strut would be stylish and a little more safe on the vehicle. Especially with the strut being adjustable, it puts some peace to mind in some aspects, and in my opinion, money well spent

Your doing a great job with your blog! Have been interested in the strut lift for a while. I have experimented by using something as simple as a pair of heavy elastic bands (where others have added the springs). worked very well but the elastics tend to dry out over time. So still looking for the perfect material to use. I don't like the springs as they add a lot of stress to the horizontal cross bar which is very small in diameter. The distance that the springs must extend to when the trunk is closed is adding a lot of torsional stress to the cross bar. I don't need the trunk to open to the full open position, as I fear that the wind mat catch it & do a whole lot of damage to the lid or hinge details. A foot or so upward is more than enough for my comfort zone.

Thank you so much! I researched and thought of doing springs or bands, but just as you, my fear was having the wind catch the lid, along with the uncontrollable force applied by springs or bands, and causing damage to the trunk. With the strut, the force is controllable, slow, provides resistance, and doesn't have to open all the way, just the way I like it.

Are you able to do a video tutorial on how to adjust the trunk lid to sit flush with the car? I find that water goes in through the trunk because it’s slightly lifted and I’m not sure how to adjust it. Thank you!

I can definitely add that to the list of "To Do's" for future videos. In the meantime, I do have a booklet of body adjustments you can make, and it includes adjustments to the 'Deck Lid' or the trunk lid. I'll provide a link below for you to check out.
