i just took mine out for its first float. wow. i am impressed. it wants to cruise at 20 mph! im used to casually riding my XR around 10-12 mph on this loop, so when I looked at the speed and saw 20 mph I was in disbelief haha. I went for a 10 mile ride, in 45 degree (F) weather, and when I got home I still had 47% battery. I clock in at 169 (nice!) lbs. 466 ft of elevation change. All on pavement. 15 psi. For me, personally... worth. every. penny. the unit 1 bucket is legit, too. love mine.

Super glad you’re enjoying your board. There seems to be a lot of negativity around Future Motion and their products, but at the end of the day, I enjoy the ride. Even with the lackluster range (for me - lighter riders probably have it better), I enjoy riding the GT-S.

I average 20 miles on my GTS riding 80/20 street trail at 14psi going 18-20 mph at 175. Board gets more miles than my XR, so the range isn't an issue for me. Also it has power till the end of the battery where my xr will get soggy. Board looks and rides amazing for me, love it!

When I saw you were in DC, I was literally about to ask you if you ever ran into Javier while out…And then he shows up. Wild. 🤣 Thinking about winning lottery numbers now. Also, that range…13.78 mile pace. Ouch. It’s seeming like the range has been a little overestimated this time (which FM hasn’t been known to do in the past). On your last video, I told you I’ve been averaging 11.4 miles…Makes me think I might hit the low end of the estimate if I was to do a full test (and I weigh less than a lot of other 35 year old guys haha). Thanks for sharing!

You got it! Yeah, Javier is the homie. We didn’t plan to meet at Lincoln. He just happened to show up while I was filming. I think overestimating the GT S range needed to happen to market the board at such a high price premium. I'm 230 more or less. I'd recommend upping the tire pressure. At 30 PSI, I always get awesome range. Does it suck with high PSI? yes, it is more bumpy, but we be big guys man.... got up that PSI. At 30 PSI I can easily get 15 miles on an XR with battery to spare. I live in the mid-west and have noticed that the boards don't really have significant battery reduction until around 40 F or lower. BTw, I got an evolve hadeon bamboo all terain for just under $1800. I get 30 + mile range and can hit 20 MPH easily. It can hit 30 MPH but I have it capped at 20. I didn't have to modify anything. Its slightly different from onewheels but honestly it feels safer....I haul @$$ and you can't nosedive. Bumps and little jumps no longer scare the hell out of me if I don't see them.
@followdon

Personally, I ride at around 27.5 PSI. If I need more range for a ride, I might try to up it to 30 PSI. One of the electric skateboard brands wanted me to do a video in exchange for a board, but I’m not personally interested in that form factor. But 30 mph and 30 mile range sounds awesome!

How long did it take you to build up to being able to ride 6.2 miles straight? I’ve been away from board sports for some time after and Achilles injury. Just got my onewheel gT this week. Longest ride so far 3.5miles. trying to go a little further each day. My legs are jello. 6ft 195lbs, and posture or stance recommendations?
@followdon
@followdon 11 ай бұрын
I ride with a pretty wide stance. My feet are relaxed on the pad. In the beginning I used to grip the foot pads with my toes which was totally unnecessary and caused foot fatigue. I keep my center of gravity over the tire and control the speed with subtle shifts in weight. I will use my arms in front to pick up speed rather than lean forward. My stance forms a “V” typically. Once I’m moving, I’m always ready to slightly lean back to brake. Getting low helps when rolling over obstacles. You can always stop and rest at traffic lights.
@Davidwhat

Good point. Learning to shift your feet on the board while riding can also relieve pressure-based pain on your feet.
@MrDmadness
@MrDmadness Ай бұрын
Volts is not electron flow ( what moves you ) its electrical pressure. You need this pressure to start motion in an inductive circuit. once its rolling however AMPS are the actual flow. Why do i mention this ? Because you dont need 120volts to work, its doing nothing and just costing you range. Futuremotion boards are frying themselves because their gts are not utilizing any safety factor in the sizing of the components like caps and mossfets ( in this case safety factor referring totge circuits ability to handle excessive load without melting down) more voltage ( pressure) also increases arc potential.
@followdon

This is a helpful explanation. I’ve heard the mossfets are commonly criticized.

@MrDmadness Ай бұрын

@followdon

You’ll enjoy your miles more on the GTSR than the standard GT. It’s also worth noting that in the beginning, you’ll get more miles in total from the GT. After riding over 4,600 miles on the GT, I get less range out of the battery and feel less confident that the board won’t drop me. It’s sad to think that, in the future, I will get fewer miles on the GT S-Series battery than I do now. Perhaps by the time that happens, someone will offer a long range modular option for the GT S battery.

I'll give you my thesis ahead of posting my next video (in which I planned to share this). The GT S-Series, post the Gradient Tracking update, has widened the ride-experience gap over the GT. It’s an even smoother ride now. If you own both boards, you won’t want to ride the GT. Even though you’ll have more range, you’re riding more miles with an objectively worse ride experience. If you’re riding with friends, maybe this is tolerable. Or perhaps, if the range is necessary for a commute, same idea. But the quality of ride is unquestionably better on the GT S-Series. I’m trying to find them online but can’t. I bought them in a store called “Somewhere” in DC. They are New Balance shoes. The closest comps I could find were the “327”s. But those are women’s shoes only on their site.

$3000+ for a something that get 16 -20 miles range??? Quite expensive don't you think? Also those Range estimate are usually done at 9 - 10 mph. If you are going 15-20 mph you ain't getting that range. Have to read the fine print. Just get a Electric Unicycle (EUC). You will get way more speed, about 10x more range and it way more fun than a Onewheel...and less expensive...$3000+ on a EUC will get you about 60 mph and over 100 miles range per charge. My EUC cost less than $2000 and I get 90 miles range and can go 45+ mph...way more bang for your buck than the Onewheel
@followdon
@followdon 11 ай бұрын
That is a wild difference! I don’t have the budget for a new PEV right now, but it would be nice to have an EUC in the stable. A few weeks into owning the board and I’m realizing I don’t need a ton of range most days. And if I’m going any faster than 30 miles per hour, I’ll need a new class of safety gear. Your EUC sounds awesome though! Which model do you have?

That range sucks! I just watched a video, and he got 20 miles, on mostly city ride. You, cant get 16? WTF! I really am torn about trading in my GT for a GT-s...Now, you said it was cold...so maybe temperature decreases range/battery life? Plus, what was your average speed? Also, hate I can't run my WTF rails on a GTS ...Id like to see a video of how much range 10% batter gives you...Thanks!

I just went out on another ride with weather in the high 60’s. I didn’t make it home without a walk of shame. My battery gave up while the app reported I had 10 percent left. The ride had a lot of steep hills. I pumped up the Gradient Tracking settings and the board powered up them (at slow but consistent speeds). I’d love to have a board with GT S-Series power and slightly better range.

The mileage is actually working out to be enough for 99.9 percent of my rides. I think it just hurts to lose so many miles when you spend so much. What is your top speed on the Pint? I’d be terrified to go faster than what I’ve done so far. My current top speed is 26.1 miles per hour without a crash or nosedive.

Range is super important to me and it was a bit of a letdown in that respect, especially considering the premium price. The ride experience itself is nice. It isn’t life changing to me, but it’s my preferred board to grab. And in many everyday scenarios, the limited range I get is enough for a simple round trip.

Ridicule!

In fairness bro, you are charging it the entire time and nearly side swiping pedestrians with literally no bell or warning for them. Get a finger finger or slow the hell down. You're giving the sport a bad name doing that. People don't like that and it's not safe. What's to say people couldn't trip in front of you? How about step to the left or to the right to answer a text message unexpectedly? You never should be going that fast next to people. It's extremely disrespectful and unsafe.

Thanks for your feedback! Please check out my warm weather range test video and let me know how I’m doing now. I’ll look into getting a finger dinger. In the new video, I added multi-view in a couple of spots so you can see my perspective. Not to defend fast riding, but I’m planning far ahead when passing, and I’m watching what the pedestrians are doing many yards in advance.
