GTA 3 was released and set in 2001. GTA Liberty City Stories was released in 2005 but set in 1998.

@@michaellovegrove9467 in the firsts beta versions of GTA 3, they added the Two WTC towers, and when shii hapenned, they had to remove it. there is something else too : during presentation of GTA 3, they had a mission where you had to explode i-dunno-what featuring a plane with it. GTA3 suffered of so many changes during devellopment, and bcuz of dat i don't really remember but i think they was bout to just cancel the game, and they fight for it so it never happened

1998 was bit different than 2001. 2001 no longer have a ferry, 1998 had a ferry. Shortside Vale tunnel stay close in 2001 after the incident of the subway was destroy in 1998.

They separated the canon because this version of Liberty City and GTA IV's are so different. But as you can see, this version was very underdeveloped even in 1998. Basically, the simple fix is a retcon by giving this metropolis a new name and have it be an original fictional city in Liberty State. It's just that this map is so iconic. All it needs is an expansion from the ground up, adding a bunch of new locations and keeping the landmarks with them. And of course, a countryside that needs to retain that eerie, dull feeling these games had.

@@TeurastajaNexus They already do separate stories instead of continuations, this type of storytelling is an anthology, probably my favorite type because lore can be greatly expanded upon. But different universes doesn't make sense for this genre because it's not Rick and Morty or comic books, so it gets confusing when they say, "Hey, Claude, Tommy, CJ, Toni, Vic, and others don't exist anymore", but include the backstories of every celebrity, like Lazlow still having been a DJ in Vice City in the '80s and the host of Chatterbox, which existed in 2001 and went defunct in 2002. Anyway, didn't mean to rant or anything, I just think better approaches could've been taken because the 3D era had such great world-building.

@@TeurastajaNexus Yes! They've started fan service that directly mentions the 3D universe, and that's as close as we've gotten to them canceling their decision to separate them. We'll see what GTA 6 brings. There's so much pressure on them, so it's gonna have to turn out great, otherwise I don't know how they'd recover. In a way, I've felt for them at times. Perfection is expected of them, especially after RDR2, but it's so risky because politics have taken over everything. I have optimism due to it being a Florida-based setting, so I feel it can't go wrong. Florida is GTA-level crazy in real life, so there's more for them to work with.

As a huge diehard fan of GTA 3 myself I've never liked LCS. Rockstar butchered the original art style and feel of Liberty City. In 2001 it was truly done right and it was such a dark beautiful masterpiece, when they made this shitty mobile port they made everything so clunky and vibrant. It barely even feels like the same city, aside from some extra missions and side activities it downright sucks.

Basically grand theft auto: Liberty City Stories is Basically grand theft auto III in the grand theft auto: Vice City and San Andreas engine and atmosphere. You cant zoom in and zoom out in III but you can in LCS. Plus LCS is more brighter. Despite it has motor bikes and new vehicles. Also it has design flaws litterley a game does not save, unless you go to your safehouse and save it, if you go away from LCS and turn it on and click resume it takes you to your last saved game in Safehouse. I like GTA III the story is much better. I respect everyone opinions
