You know, I did read that the original Deathwish Ending is that Franklin was suppose to die and therefore you play as Lamar and he teams up with Trevor and Michael to avenge Franklin's death. But Slink Johnson was going through a personal issue at that time. Therefore, Franklin survives.

Because Rockstar doesn't want to go through the trouble of having to recreate the characters from scratch basically. That's the only real reason. It's like converting a super 8 analog film to digital bluray a pain in the ass, lots of money, won't convert well, and doesn't look as good. They'd have to bring back the voice actors for those characters and do the whole face cam things they did with the gta 5 cast. And unfortunately it doesn't seem like they want to.

Franklin was the starting character, the one who tied the story of GTA SA into GTA 5. The plot was based off of his father, CJ's past. Thats how they could explain it being in San Andreas. Tbh Michael and Trevor came in just so it wouldn't be the same old thing.
