Notice how before, their tone was always different because they knew that they had leverage over Carl with that gun (which stopped being mentioned) and the threat of his brother was held hostage. But once Mike Toreno asked for his wallet in his mission, he was already four steps ahead of the authority, once CJ started doing favors for him. That's why this game will always be legendary because it was so beautifully written.
