The 530e in the video is limited to 127mph, since it's the non M Sport package. That is the only reason why the Charger was even able to catch up again on those straightaways. The 530e was pulling it on all accelerations and performed much better into turns. That driver was super high too, so his precision and skills were definitely impaired. I think a sober, skilled driver could have driven that 5-series much more effectively.

A BMW 530e has a 248 hp 2.0L 4-cylinder (B46) and a single electric motor between the engine and transmission that adds another 40 hp (for up to 10 seconds at a time) and routes that through a ZF 8-speed auto. From the factory, the RWD model can hit 60 in 5.2 seconds and due to its economy-focused tires, it is governed to 130 mph. When optioned with Summer tires, that speed is lifted to 146 mph. All of this to say, this is a heavy, 4-cylinder economy car...and it had that Blackhawk unit tasked for days. The 5-series can definitely out-turn and out-brake the pursuit vehicle, so if it hadn't been the Prius-version, this would have been different. Go one step up from the 530e to a 540i and you go from an inline 4 to an inline 6. Make no mistake, there is a reason why Toyota chose the B58 inline six to power their new Supra...it eats V8's for breakfast. If the perp had some driving skill and a 540i he would've disappeared over the horizon and there wouldn't have been anything that pursuit unit could do about it.

It's still around 250-260 continuous and BMW is famous lately for derating the output. But it's a very heavy car especially with the batteries, and having the lower speed limiter... Not the worst car for agility and power but not great.

I have 2022 bmw 530e looks like the exact spec he drove. Even with the engine detuned to 180hp because of that ev motor this car performs well and the handling surprises me how good it is for the weight. I raced against a 530i which has same horsepower and it was like 3 car lengths behind. I can’t imagine if I were to untune the engine back from 180 to 280hp paired with that electric motor I’d be making 387hp and the best part it that I wouldn’t really be putting the engine at stress.

So if that police cruiser really is that slow... You could outrun it technically in a G20 320d (2-liter diesel 190hp/400nm) that has a top speed of about 140-145mph. I thought USA police cruisers are fast. So basically any 3-liter diesel BMW can outrun these USA police cruisers. In theory. Personally obviously i would never run from the police, it is stupid.
