I have had so much fun with my DSG, manuals aren’t really my cup of tea. I think people need to mind their own business with what transmission someone is happier with, I have already had numerous people hate my mk7 all because it’s DSG and I tell them please just leave me be because I am perfectly happy with it, I love using paddle shifters all the time in manual shifting mode and the DSG is so unbelievably responsive it makes it a blast to accelerate and hear the farts add to the noise my car produces. I have respect for my manuals out there because manuals was where superior performance came from back in the day!

Only problem with DSG transmission is that the mechatronics units is very prone to failure. Especially on the 2006 to 2011 VW models. Once that fails, good luck trying to even put the car in Park. It’ll look for the gear, give up, and give you the flash of death, and puts the car into neutral. I find it redundant that if you shift into neutral and fails to go into neutral but went into neutral because it failed to go into neutral.
@Matt_Pie3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it depends on the transmission, the DQ250 appears to have less issues with this and fixing it is still cheaper then an entire transmission.

@@Wyzu22 In functionality they are, but their mechanisms can be a little different. In the US market, the base golf gets the 8AT with torque converter, and GTi has 7-speed DCT with, dual clutch. There are many transmissions considered "Automatic", AKA "I don't need to shift gears", but they also separate into CVTs, torque converters, and more and more common, DCTs.

I have a 2017 GTI SE with the DSG and I really like it. I drive in manual mode 98% of the time, using the paddles and floor shifter just like a manual transmission. The only difference is that I don't need to use my left leg. The only time I drive in full auto mode is when I get into heavy stop & go traffic. I've upgrade the little stock plastic paddles to larger nice anodized metal paddles and they function & look so much better. The full auto "Sport" mode is ok if my hands are busy, but there's no way that a computer knows which gear I should be in more than I do. The ECU always shifts into a higher gear than I want, especially in full "D" mode, which is dreadful. Manual trans are great and preferable in some cases and I would not hesitate to buy a sports car with one if the conditions were right. But not knowing how the clutch was treated on a used manual trans could be risky. A GTI with the DSG for spirited street driving can be great fun in the right hands!! Peace

DSG all day long, manual will be a thing of the past in the racing scenes within 10 years, the vast majority of motorsport high end vehicles already have made the switch to sequential shifting it outweighs the positives of manual drive cars, faster shifts, rev matches on downshifts accurate to roadspeed, eliminates the need to be able to Heel and Toe proficiently approaching corners for faster lap times, both hands on the wheel at all time. The list goes on and on. Manuals are great fun but if i pull up beside you and you have a manual variation of my car your getting gapped bud.
