This is awsome!!!!! i tried it on mine since i was not able to get nissan to locate this part anymore and if a dealer had it was like 20 bucks each one. GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!! WORKES great on mine also!!!

i do this underneath the lifters themselves on my rwd det w tomei solids. had to do it while on vacation 1500 miles from home out of necessity and it worked great

RWD is pretty easy.. All you have to check for is if its level.. The HLA will set the gap for you .. It would have to be SO far off otherwise and might change the rocker ratio a tad but again it would have to be WAYYY off.. Just check for level .. Also yes the 54C and 1N5 SR20s are solid from the factory.. the 54C GTiR is a complete pain in the ass.. the 1N5 VVL motor is much easier as the sims are the same as Harly Davidson VTwins and most KTM Dirt Bikes .. KTM 500cc is what I use for VVL's

Love the video, thank you. Here is something I learned. Don't use cheep feeler gauges, they will get eaten up, I put about 2k miles and after I had my head removed to replace head gasket, some of the shims I made where not there.

Well .. The hole punched I used was a 5.5mm punch its a strike punch using a hammer .. That seemed to create the exact perfect size for going under the shim.. As for performance !! it will create a little more lift when its correctly sized as opposed to loose .. Big problem if its too loose it will toss off the rocker and brake your shims and the rocker arms and may get stuck holding a valve open where the piston will smack and destroy the motor .. Bending valves or breaking a piston sometimes.

so i assume this is with a solid lifter setup? as the hydraulic lifter would put constant pressure on the rocker forcing the rocker tips to push on the valve tops leaving no clearance ,regardless if the valve heights are the same ?? just wondering i am trying to shim my sr head but mine is a hydraulic setup still also rwd setup i dont think that makes a difference though

just as i thought.

Well I did measure both valves and ensured they are in fact level.. I'm sure theres many other ways to check it as well but I just thought that was the easiest and it seems to work just fine.. I put over 100k trouble free miles on my 54C with no problems then did the same thing on my Buggy and also ran fine... Thanks for the info on the alternate method as well .. Take Care :)

This is such a bodge-up, to my mind. You should be levelling the rockers first by measuring the heights of the shims and guides with a DTI, and shimming to suit.THEN set the valve lash with feelers under the cam lobes. Otherwise, theres nothing to say that your rocker arms are level. I have done this on my SR with a DTI and a machined part to slot into the lash adjuster holes.

I was just thinking the same. only way this could work is if using solid lifters. i must measure my sr shims but where to get a tool:(

Awesome how to video. I just have a couple of couple. What is the size of the arch or hole punch? Did u notice any performance difference after shimming ur engine?

is there any way to do these wile the everything is still on the head like cams chain cam gears i have broke 3 shims in the last few years and i have found a way to change them everytime without having to remove cams by holding down the valve springs put new shims on wile the rocker ha jumped to the side and then wile holding down the valve spring just move the rocker arm bak on the shims i have done it with no problems but my question is can i do this method of yours wile everthings is on
@padraiggalvin28075 жыл бұрын
No I doubt it very much so. valves must be closed to measure there height

This is brillant. Would u mind if i referenced and put this vid in description of my dual guide conversion video?

@pablocruzdiez Thank you so much... That was my goal to make it simple and easy to understand.

Great work, will be doing the same.

Maybe but its a lot of work in the 1st place .. So to pull it parts as simple as it is will save you lots of time IMO ... If your tossing shims then your most likely off on the measurements and also the rocket is probably twisting as you have 1 valve that is much loser then then other and the rocker is tilting .. Just a thought.. Best of luck :)

What do you mean buy hot and cold in the first slide
@supershagspeed5 жыл бұрын
Honored zithma you can take the measurements when the engine is hot or when it’s cold

Just wondering. But should you not put feelers of the same size on each guide to ensure its level . and obviously also if the valves are both at the same height?. Like u got .305 Would that be .152 on each side?

Where did you get the punch
@supershagspeed9 жыл бұрын
Dan Gutierrez Amazon .. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002T87CW All the inserts have little raised center pins.. Just grind it down so it doesn't leave a mark on your punched feller gauge .. You will see what I am talking about when you get it.

I don't think your gauges will be in spec after the torture

I had a GTi-R motor I put around 100k US miles on with this method and on recheck it was hardly off .. I suspect what you would find with a 100K miles at least .. So It does work.. I have done it on a few motors now with out a problem.. Sorry for the late reply ..
@jimmybaggs534210 жыл бұрын
Chris Allen Have you compared the modified gauge thickness to and unmodified one of the same size? The heat that makes the gauge accept a 90 degree bend will also allow it to expand to a different thickness when cooled. Not that there is any alternative I can recommend.
@supershagspeed10 жыл бұрын
Yes checked with calipers and there the same.. I also use a separate set of gauges to hole punch.. so far the method has worked with no problems...
