A huge congrats Geoff. I honestly got emotional watching you receive this award. I am a Canadian who fell in love with the Underground when I first visited London in 1987. When my mom was still alive she took me everywhere on the Underground and on NSE from Manor Park (my aunt's local stop). I havent visited since 2002, but your videos which I have watched (repeatedly) since 2013 are entertaining and informative. Congratulations! The Tube was still using these tunnels in the 1970's. I moved to London in 1973 and used that line until it closed before the link being made between Finsbury Park and Drayton Park for the new overhead/third rail service. I then used the new service from the day that it opened travelling from Harringey to Old Street daily. I last used this train yesterday, so I've used it for most of these 40 year old units lives. Looking forward to using the new rolling stock, though I doubt that I'll live to see the next incarnation in another 40 years time!

Congratulations Geoff with the certificate, trophy and the soon to be received 100k KZbin award! I'm still amazed by the long train stopping at the platforms that are too short. That such a British thing! And it will never happen here in the Netherlands. The train and the platform have to match otherwise the train will not stop. I'm not even sure it's even possible to unlock the doors partially in any Dutch train series or than by hand.

Firstly, congrats Geoff on the 100k subs! However, I'll be very surprised if this switch from old to new stock goes without major hitches. After GTR's disastrous time table fiasco of last year, I'm afraid I wouldn't trust GTR as far as I could throw them - which is not very far! Be prepared for more of the "The next train has been cancelled due to a member of staff not being available" announcements!! (the lamest excuse in the history of lame excuses). I really really hope I'm proved wrong. On this line (I live in Hornsey) we deserve a franchise fit for purpose for the 20th century. Come on GTR - please get your act together! I'll stop ranting now.....

5:18 "Part of the Northern Line until the 1950's". Isn't that supposed to be "common knowledge" (let alone professional knowledge) that it was part of the Northern until 1976 (as even the Moorgate tube crash occured there in 1975)
@Jeagles

The Great Northern & City Line might have been run as part of the Northern Line, but the size of the tunnels are totally different. It's a real shame that the Northern Heights plan got scrapped: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_line#Great_Northern_&_City_Railway I'd like to see TfL have a *new* Northern Heights plan, with the underground stations on the Northern City Line all made longer and the Moorgate tunnels moved, so that the tunnels can extend south to Bank, Canon Street, across the Thames to London Bridge and off to somewhere useful in South East London.

It was always intended that Moorgate would be linked to Finsbury Park using tunnels that were bored to accommodate standard gauge trains. However, the branch was operated by London Underground using tube stock, instead and formed the City Branch of the Northern Line. As someone who lived in the Essex Road area, I was a frequent user of the tube from this station and can well remember the large stations from, what seemed, another era and the seemingly diminutive trains.The tunnels between Drayton Park and Finsbury Park were closed in the mid 60's as part of the Victorial Line works and the GN platforms were adopted for use by southbound Piccadilly/Victoria Line trains. The tunnel portals at Drayton Park were clearly visible from the station platforms for many years subsequently. The rest of the branch was temporarily closed in 1975 prior to intoduction of the Great Nothern Electric service in 1976. The re-opening of the branch and introduction of the new service finally brought about the original vision for the line - running trains from the City into the northern London suburbs.
@darrengomes2203
@darrengomes2203 5 жыл бұрын
When it was originally constructed in the 1900s, the rail company that built it wanted to build a rail line that would come right into the City of London from Hertfordshire. They had a partnership with the LNER, or it's predecessor, to run services beyond Finsbury Park. But after the City of London objected to the plan to bring a large, although underground, station into the heart of the Square Mile (so the route was truncated at Moorgate), the other rail company backed out and it just became a short line between Finsbury Park to Moorgate, which then got taken over by the Metropolitan Railway. It then became a Metropolitan Line branch after 1933, with Metropolitan Line rail stock. It then got transferred to the Northern Line with the Northern Heights extension plan, with Standard Tube stock and that got swapped for 1938 stock before the line was transferred over to British Rail.

Hate these trains, currently on the Bedford - St Pancras line. Seats are the most uncomfortable on the network and the hardest. There is no ventilation, the air con is too cold or too hot. No tables. They sway and bump harshly and make me feel nauseaus.

"I think they're going to let me in the cab!" But.. you just got out of the cab! Congrats on 100,000 subs Geoff! Happy to be one of them!

Well done to you Geoff and to Victoria. You have helped me through illness by being so possitive. Please can you go to Hampden Park , Sussex and find out if it does have the busiest level crossing in the UK or indeed Europre

Stumbled across this channel, how cool very interesting stuff. These class 717 trains seem to have a few improvements over the Thameslink 700 series rolling stock

Congratulations and well deserved recognition! I spent the summer of 1985 in London commuting on the Bakerloo & Northern Lines and taking old Brit Rail. Always love to see how the network is evolving and improving!

Love watching your videos Geoff. Miss London and the transport system. Life is different up north. We could do with you as an advocate for better rail up here. You’ve already got 100,000 backers! ☺️

I believe that you might be getting that 100,000 subscriber play button from KZbin soon alongside the rewards that you have received from GTR to go with it. Such a stunning event to be invited in for the occasion and keep it up!

Congratulations! TBH, I will miss the 313s when they go. I've ridden on them since 1978 - and now I feel old!

I think I heard Matt's voice on the PIDs and my local station on the West Coastway. But how cool is this! A cab ride whilst being in the tunnels in a new train! Happy 100k, Geoff!

3:30 I love being in the back of a long train and just watching the train snack in front of me. The simple pleasures of commuting.
