Ricky Skaggs, the pride of eastern KY has taken the torch from Bill Monroe and carried it into our time. He is a national treasure and continues to teach us all about our rich mountain music heritage. Tony Rice and Ricky are masters, and their easy style hides some pretty complex and creative work.

Do not forget this culture. This is the hard line of European exploration that endured untold suffering- the people who left England, Scotland and Ireland and ended up in the foothills of a distant continent. Comforted by tunes from home in a new and glorious sound. Love from Ireland. God bless America. The rain falls, the wind blows, how glorious.

When I listen to Ricky, I usually just put the guitar down, and really listen. There is some essential truth to his music that transcends genre and technique. Having deep roots in eastern KY and SW VA, it just makes it resonate even deeper for me. I am not religious, but I feel something in Ricky's spirituals that is authentic and timeless.

Im watching this video to try to learn how Ricky plays the mandolin parts on this song. I can't do it. First reason is because Ricky Scaggs is a master musician and I am not. The second reason is that tears keep filling my eyes. Good music will make you feel somthing. This song reminds me of Heaven. Where the Lord is and my many loved ones Who are with Him. Thank you Ricky Skaggs And Tony Rice. And Tony Rice may you rest in peace.

Tony is the most efficient guitar player I have ever seen. His hands hardly move from the guitar as he changes frets, and the right hand hardly goes above or below the strings as he picks. It's hard to believe he plays as many notes as he does, when the hands hardly move. I would have to get cable and tie my arms and hands down to the guitar if I played that fast. They'd be flying all up above my head and round behind me and everstuff.
