@@StickPeopleAndPuff actually it's an African American instrument based off an African instrument but they are not the same since the banjo is more refined instrument similar to how a guitar is no longer considered a lute since the guitar was refined over time and become its own instrument

As a little boy (I know that is hard to imagine) we lived in Tokyo for almost three years and I clearly remember going to a Kabuli theater performance (Naguata) of shamisen. The performance was painful to sit through. However, at this Sundays Picking -on-the-Porch I will, upon request, sing a verse of "Supina-de-fo-de-fu that will also be painful.
